Hayden or Holden?

That's it. That's the question. I want the middle name to be Scott or Samuel, DH wants James. But we can't work out the first name.

I would not use a name that is strongly associated with a single character, unless I admired that character. I love Catcher in the Rye, but it's a story about a child going mad. It's not what I'd want to put in the universe for my child's name.

So, I'm team Hayden. I like Hayden James a lot, because James is one of my very favorite names.

"Haiden Scott" rolls off the tongue nicely. Say the full names out loud (with your last name, too.). Hayden James sounds even better.

Holden might sound like "holding"

Not sure if origin and meaning are important to you but if so, both appear to be nature names.

The name Hayden is a name of English origin meaning "hay valley".

The name Holden is a name of English origin meaning "hollow valley".

Agree with this.

Catcher in the Rye is a really boring book and the older it gets the less people will consider it a classic. It was loved by the kind of book critic who went to prep school. That world is Boomer era and drawing to a close.

I like Holden Scott best.

Brittany Spears' son is Jayden James. There's also a porn star with a similar name, as I found while trying to confirm Brittany's kid's name.

I think Hayden is a trendy name that peaked. And when it peaked, there were lots of names that rhymed with it.

I gave my kid a classic name first and a quirkier middle. That way his credit reports are unique and if he wants to be different he can use his legal middle name.

How about Scott H. Last Name?
