Etiquette question: How much to tip house cleaners (if anything)?

Anonymous
Even though this thread is three yrs. old, someone on here revived it so I am assuming because they would like to know what is proper or not.

Personally…..
I feel if you have a good cleaner or cleaning crew & they are dependable, punctual, responsible/trustworthy, thorough ➕ follow instructions well I would offer them a tip on top of their cleaning salary.

Because let’s face it - - cleaning 🧹 is hard, physical labor.
Especially when you have to clean 🧽 to someone else’s standards.
And the pay is very low and benefits are usually nil.

I would also offer them a nice bonus when the holidays roll around too.

This is a perfect example of a client who truly appreciates all the ways a housecleaner makes their lives easier!

If two cleaners twice a month that clean for two hours with $180 to company, how much and when to tip? For each?

When I had people from a service coming, I gave each person who cleaned that day (it was usually 2, but occasionally a team of 3 arrived) $20 in cash. It was not always the same team -- so just giving a holiday tip would not have helped them.

No. No tip.

I do give a Christmas bonus equal to the price of one cleaning.

Also, I give 5% raise each year (because my DH insists).

I would tip them 10-20% after each visit - - then likely $200 during Christmas/holidays.
