Opera: La Boheme or Barber of Seville?

Which would you choose?

Thank you!

Both have incredible music, but it depends on the production, the cast and the voices. Also, Barber of Seville is very funny and La Boheme is a tragedy. Do you want to laugh or cry at the end? Either Could be magnificent.

La Boheme! I'm a huge Puccini Fan. I lived in Germany for many years and went to the opera almost every weekend. When you are a student, you can get in the opera for next to nothing. I wish it was like that over here. I miss going to the Opera. Living in DC, I go only about once or twice a year. The Kennedy Center is expensive.

La Boheme is beautiful ... I would love to see it live (have only viewed on TV).

Yeah, the KC is way overrated. The arts should not be beyond a middle class income. Opera in particular is ridiculous. When I lived in France I attended the symphony on a student ticket for less than the price of a movie. La Boheme is beautiful.

Yes about the same price as a movie ticket in Europe... Oh why did I not go more often?

For me: Barber of Seville! Love the music!

I have seen both, and they are both great though!

OP here, thank you!

I have heard some of the music from Barber of Seville before and liked it--but never really heard anything from La Boheme...however, just the timing of the performances--La Boheme would be MUCH easier for me to see than Barber of Seville...so I was trying not to feel to bad about choosing La Boheme...
Sounds like it will be great!

Thanks!

If you're under 35, you can join Generation O and get Ken Cen opera tix (some really good seats!) for reasonable prices.

I go for comic, every time! I'd see the Barber in a heartbeat.

Boheme has some breathtakingly beautiful music, especially in the third act where Mimi and Rudolfo sing of their doomed love.

You'll love it!

For me, no question--La Boheme! The music is exquisitely beautiful--almost makes your heart hurt from the beauty. From the first time I heard it, I adored Puccini!

The Barber is more accessible for a novice, I think - it's more like candy for opera lovers. La Boheme is a bit heavier but oh so beautiful! You can't go wrong. Have a great time!

La Boheme, especially if you are not familiar with the music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEcsUHiKYak

La Boheme - Puccini is just beautiful music.

Both are awesome, in the mean time, watch the Bugs Bunny Version of Barber - the Rabbit of Seville. It's hysterical.
