Love that this thread has so many responses!
I'd agree that both are awesome, but would suit different moods. In addition to performance schedule convenience, I might also base my decision on singers/ conductors I preferred to hear. |
It;s true, the Kennedy Center is overrated and overpriced. Thankfully, there are several smaller opera companies in the DC area that offer professional, high-quality productions at a fraction of the price. My favorite is Bel Cantanti in Rockville, but there is also Wolftrap, Victorian Lyric Opera, Virginia Opera, Peabody Opera, the list goes on. Student tickets to these productions are rarely more than $20. The two arts festivals currently going on, Capital Fringe in DC and Artscape in Baltimore, include free or very cheap opera performances. And then of course there is also Met in HD, and Opera in Cinema Series. |
To OP, if you want another source to preview some of the music from La Boheme, watch "Moonstruck" with Cher and Nicholas Cage. It runs throughout the film as well as the performance at the Met scenes. I think you will be very pleased with your choice of La Boheme. |
