Nice Watch Recommendation?

Anonymous
I am finally returning to the work force (tomorrow, actually!). For the last few years, the only wristwatch that I have worn is my old trusty plastic Timex. I don't think wearing it would be necessarily inappropriate in my job, but I do think it might be more appropriate and nice to have something a step up. DH has also been searching around for some type of "return to the workforce gift," and I think a nice watch might fit the bill.

I'm not looking for anything terribly fancy. Or terribly expensive (under 1K). Something I can use every day, that keeps good time, that's a step up from my Timex, and maybe even stepped up enought to hand off one day to DD.

So, please, any recommendations would be welcome.

Thanks.

Have you tried www.bluenile.com? We got my mother-in-law a nice watch from them a year ago or so. A Bulova around $400 and it looked an awful lot like a Baume et Mercier that sells for around $4K. She had it sized by a local jewelry store and wears it now as her everyday watch. It looks great. HTH

I love my Bulova--got it on sale at Macy's about 10 years ago and wear it daily. No gold or diamonds or anything because that's just not me, but I wear it for dressed up occasions as well. They have a variety of styles, mine is silver-toned with a black face and numbers, and the date.

When you find one you like, shop around for a good price.

That's so sweet that your husband wants to get you a return to the workforce gift, too

I love my Movado. Range of prices, clean, modern, clasic watches.

You can buy a beautiful Omega for close to 1k. I love mine.

Is it a watch that you must wind every day? Or a quartz. I like non-winding quartz watches, but thought nice Omegas were only wind-up.

I like my bracelet like, metal-banded Swatch for less than $100.

Looking for a nice watch recommendation for an X-mas present for big sis. Nothing extravagent. Just an attractive and dependable watch she can wear at work and home.

Citizen watches -- around $300. With eco-drive -- never need a battery.

My watch-nut* hubby says your options include Movado, Raymond Weil (I think they're especially pretty) or Hamilton. Omegas are nice, but it might be stretch to find one under $1000.

Overstock.com apparently has some good watches. Most women's watches are quartz - especially those under $1000.

*he tells me the technical term is WIS: Watch Idiot Savant.

From one non-WIS, can you ask your DH WIS what Hamilton watches he would recommend?

I love RADOs, there are a few that you may be able to get for less that $1k. I also like Fossil - its really cheap (most are under $150), but they look great and tell time really well.
