Nice Watch Recommendation?

From one non-WIS, can you ask your DH WIS what Hamilton watches he would recommend?

Hi, this is DH typing

It really depends on what you like as to what to suggest. To men, a watch is like shoes, handbags, and jewelery, and gadgets all in one item. I mean asking for a watch recommendation is like asking you for a shoe suggestion-- a lot more follow up questions are asked

That said, look at many web sites and find what you like stylistically. A dress watch, casual, diamonds, bracelet, strap? Hamilton is a great brand, they make high quality reasonable priced watches. I like the Ladies Jazzmaster from them. I also like the ESQ Ventura (a dead ringer for a Patek Philippe Twenty4 at 1/12th the price). The Fendi Loop is also really nice (and the straps match their new purses). You can also check out a watch forum like www.timezone.com and look at the sales corner at used watches. Ladies pieces don't hold value and $1000 buys a lot of ladies watch-- maybe even an Omega, possibly a Jaeger-LeCoultre, maybe even an older Rolex.

Bottom line, if all else fails, buy what you like. At that price point you can't make a really bad choice.

Best,

I recommend finding a used Cartier Tank Mid Size. It's a great watch - classic look. Solid timepiece

I love my Baume and Mercier -

They are available for less than $1000 if you choose something diamond-free and understated.

Movado!

Movado. I've got two, but wear the "cheaper" ie non-gold one every day. In fact, I never wear the gold one, the other one is so nice, great SS/gold band, keeps great time, I only take it off to shower and sleep. Had it for four years, and changed the battery for the first time this year.

I like Hamilton, which is an old-time watch company that used to be based in upstate New York, I believe. They make very simple watches -- generally a white face, roman numerals, a second hand if you want it, but no fancy alarms or anything. Gold-washed case and leather band. You can get them fairly cheap (about $100) on eBay.

OK, I just went to the Hamilton site to make sure my recommendation was OK, and the watches on the site are much fancier than what I have, also it's Pennsylvania not NY.

What about a simple Timex Ironman?

The most practical watch out there. And it smacks of reverse-snobbism, so you score points with the fashionistas as well.

NP here I am ogling Cartier Tank watches. Way over 1k, but something worth ogling IMO.

I have a really nice Christian Dior watch with diamonds. It is normally around 2K but I found it at Filene's in DC for around $600. That was a few years ago though. Before that I had a Movado for about 10 years that I loved and also highly recommend

I have one of these, and I love it. Mine has a mother-of-pearl face and diamonds on the dial, so it's pretty. I love anything that makes my life easier!

I am a huge fan of Tag Heuer. You can probably find one for about $1k, maybe a little more though.
