The doctor did it at some point--several hours into labor but still several hours before delivery. I think this is very common. It tends to speed up the contractions so the OBs usually manually break it. |
Same as PP - done by the doctor. I think somewhere around the 7 cm dilated mark, but I don't remember exactly. |
At home, 10 days before my due date. I was about to leave for work and instead went to the hospital. The night before I just didn't feel right, a little achy. I should have known... |
About 1 hour after loosing my mucus plug and on the way to the hospital. |
Mine broke at 38 weeks. It was a slow leak, not a heavy gush. The only thing I noticed was that as I would stand up after peeing that more liquid would come out, even though I wasn't trying to pee. It took me a good 8 hours for the light to go on that this meant that my water had broken. I had lost my mucous plug that morning. Even several hours after that my contractions never started, so they finally put me on pitocin. My first contractions started probably after about 3 or 4 hours on pitocin. |
I woke up at 1 am the night after my 37 week appointment and wondered if I'd peed in my sleep. Nope! Thank goodness the big gush didn't come until I was at the hospital, because there was a lot of fluid...
I never even noticed losing the mucous plug |
Mine broke on its own at the hospital, about six hours into active labor. |
My water broke as they were giving me the epidural. I was about 3cm and already in the farthest station (as low as the baby could go without being out--don't remember which way those numbers work). |
When I started pushing. |
My water broke when I was 39 weeks, 4 days pregnant. I had had an internal exam that morning and I was high, low, closed, etc....but that OB told me that she wouldn't induce me for size...which made me feel very relaxed that day. Around 7pm I was working on a jigsaw puzzle and my water broke. Went to the hospital the next morning around 9 AM....ended up with a c-section the following morning around 10:30 AM....I'm hoping to avoid that this time around ![]() |
Both times, my water broke before I went into labor; in fact, I needed pitocin both times to get contractions started. 36.5 weeks in the middle of the night (big gush) with #1; almost 39 weeks with #2, but it was a leak, and I didn't realize it for a day or so. |
39 weeks at home. It was a little trickle--so little that I thought I was just peeing on myself. Went to a weekly appt that afternoon and was told my water had in fact broken and to head to labor and delivery. |
Dr. broke my water. First time, I was induced at 38 weeks, they tried to speed it along by breaking my water, but I never dialated past 1.5cm...I ended up with a C-sec after 20 hrs of labor. Second time, I was 27 wks, they tried to stop labor but couldn't, ended up in C-section as well. |
My water broke before labor started (three days before my due date). There was a weird, internal "pop" and I felt the gush. Contractions started about 20 minutes labor, en route to the hospital. |
At 39 weeks, four days before my due date. I had just finished up my last day at work before starting maternity leave, had a glass of wine with coworkers to celebrate, got home and fed/bathed my son, and finally sat down at 9:00 to have dinner. I had lost my plug a few hours earlier, but I wasn't concerned as I had lost my plug in my first pregnancy a full two days before I went into labor. Not this time, as soon as I sat down to have dinner I felt a huge gush and it just kept on coming. I had my DD via c-section four hours later.... |
