When did your water break?

So interesting, I also had that weird internal pop and never known anyone else that experienced this. Great to know.

During the pushing phase, I felt a slight trickle. There was a huge pop right as the baby crowned.

With baby number one, I was at about 8 centimeters dilated. I had been at the hospital for about an hour; it was probably 4:00am, baby came at 11:30am. They had to be careful though b/c I had excess fluid, so they preferred to do a pinprick and let it come out slowly.

With baby number 2, they broke my water to get me into labor (after pitocin had failed, and I was resisting a c-section). Baby came about 5 hours later.

With my daughter, I have no idea when my water broke. I never noticed it before going to the hospital. My doctor tried to break it once I got there but couldn't do it. Some med students also tried to break it and weren't able to (ticked me off - I told them my OB had already done this). Eventually the nurse came in to check on me and I was lying there in the bed in amniotic fluid - they think it broke sometime but my daughter's head had corked it in. At some point she must have shifted position and it all came out but I'd had an epidural and didn't feel a thing! :0)

Mine broke at 40w2d. No natural contractions followed, so they started pitocin a few hours later.

My water also broke with a "pop". It felt like the baby had elbowed me from the inside (and maybe she did?)

At 39 weeks, around 4:30 pm, when I got up from lying down reading. Contractions didn't start til around 12:30am, weren't very strong or regular. "Helped" them along w/ castor oil at about 5am (ugh!). Son wasn't born until the day after THAT at 2pm. (Thanks for your patience, Birthcare midwives!)

At 37 weeks, before labor started, though I had been on bedrest for teh previous 5 weeks due to pre-term contractions. It was a big gush at 4:00 in the morning (in bed). I started labor contractions a couple of hours later and was still only 1 cm dialated.

Mine broke when I was 3 cm dilated in the hospital. Like PP's I felt a pop and then a gush. Although I was only 3 cm, I was having really strong, painful contractions and then dilated to 10 cm in just over an hour after my water broke.

Water broke at home, while sleeping, the morning I eventually went into labor. On my due date no less.

Thought I had peed in my sleep bc it was about the same volume as a pee; when I got up to move to the bathroom, it was Niagara Falls and the situation became clear.

On my due date, already in labor at the hospital, about 6 cm dilated and READY for an epidural. I was leaning against the bed between contractions. Felt a pop and a very welcome release of pressure.

During the pushing stage, less than an hour before he was born. The sac was impeding the pushing process and the midwife had just called for a hook (or whatever it is they use) so she could break it when it broke on its own, soaking the midwife (who actually had to change her scrubs) and splashing my husband.

3 days before my due date, after going out for dinner, and while moving laundry from the washer to the dryer. Big gush, and I thought it didn't feel like "leakage," and went upstairs to change underwear. There was another gush, and I was sure. Labored at home overnight and then went to the hospital around 7 a.m. They hooked up the pitocin, and I gave birth around 3 p.m.

Any truth to the rumor that your water like more likely to break during a rainstorm?

Interesting - I don't know if it's true, but my water did break during a rain storm. I was 38 weeks and not experiencing any contractions.
