Have you passed a street drummer in DC?

I want to hire one of those gogo drummers that play on the street...do any of you downtowners know where I can find one? Gallery Place/Chinatown? I think I passed one there before. Or if you know any drummers in this area that can play Salsa rhythms, please email me. I cannot find anyone available on craigslist.

There is usually one in front of the China Town metro exit, right by the Verizon Center. Before the Green turf was removed in down town Silver Spring I also often saw one down there.

Its been a few years since we lived in DC but there was a pretty good group on M street a few blocks up from Wis in Georgetown.

You really want to hire a bucket guy? I always wish they'd go away, as do most Gallery Place residents. When one comes to us in Adams Morgan occasionally, we're not so happy to see him. It's usually a simple rhythm with minimal variety played at obnoxious volume for extended periods of time.

Yes, I really want to hire one. There are good drummers, there are bad drummers....but I figured it might be nice to hire a good one that could add some DC flavor to my salsa event. My music will be so loud, the drummer is just an added effect.

Me...I am a rhythmaholic...I grew up going to gogos (Chuck Brown, Rare Essence, Junkyard), and am a big fan of African percussion, or any type of percussion really...gogo is the native street music of DC, you won't find it anywhere else. But it's not for everyone.

as a side note, the indie rock drummer I hired to tutor DS is unavailable for my salsa event, so I'm looking for a unique solution. I have a church drummer, but his drum sounds kind of weak for a salsa event. My cousin is a reggae drummer, but he's tied up this month.

Ok, Zumba, I respect that you know what you're looking for. Me, I'd like to see our local buskers extending themselves a little more.

Just saw one yesterday across from the metro that lets out at Nationals Stadum. He wasn't bad.

It's been awhile but when I lived in Dupont there was regularly one near the metro ( entrance by the Krispy Kreme). And, FWIW, OP, I like them too! I think it's cool you want to hire one. If you dont' like the noises of the city, you should move to the burbs!

That's not a reasonable argument. There are more soul-enriching noises and less stimulating noises. The bucket guys... I don't appreciate. FWIW, this is the smallest city I've ever lived in and it has the least talented street musicians. The clumsiest muggers, too. Brutes using, well, brute force rather than light-fingered pickpockets.
