My class loves Waterdance (I know it's like 15 yrs old)

Get-in-the-water! AHH! haha I used to love huck-a-buck.

uh oh-uh-uh uh uh oh...I believe that one is Junkyard (water dance). I can't remember what songs are from Hug-A-Bucks, it's been a loooong time! But I do remember jammin to them back in the day. How about EU? ooh and i still can't remember the name of the all-girls gogo group. anyone remember?

It don't mean a thing-ah....

This is the most DC and Urban thread on DCUM ever! (If someone mentions Fugazi I will feel as old as dirt...)

The best percussion IMHO are always kids on a corner. But how about contacting Sitar Center? They may have a class or an instructor to bring that go-go swing.

no I never heard of Sitar...I will check it out.

can you believe I have a "Let's GoGo Christmas" cassette tape from the 90s! haha!

I love that DC has its own sound. You know I am so much into Brazilian music...each state there has a rhythm of its own. In the Caribbean, each island has its own rhythm. So I am proud that DC does too! All I heard when I lived in LA was mariachi and punk rock.

It's never officially christmas until i have heard the go go version of Santa is Coming to Town - gotta love the off-key singing with the crowd shout-outs.

Precise (SP?)- all girls group?

Try CL for musicians. DCUM is probably slightly less likely to hook you up.

oh it's all coming back to me now. I am going to have to dig that Budweiser song out of my attic. : )

14:40 I have heard of Fugazi...no you are not old! I like that song. But I do believe that song is classified as swing. I looove the bass in the Swing Kids song.

21:35 I still have no clue what the girls band was called

23:41 I've been scouring CL for weeks...no luck. It's mostly punk rock drummers. DCUM was my last resort, but surprisingly, there seem to be quite a few gogomamas out there that gave me great suggestions. Now if I can find the time to stop by Gallery Place or Dupont...I'll bring take him across the river and give you Chinatowners a break...Arlington is too quiet, we need some noise. : )

There is a large and active drum circle that meets every Sunday afternoon in Meridian Hill (Malcolm X) park. They get started as early as 3pm, and I think they hit their max numbers around 6pm. They have as many as 50 drummers sometimes, so I'd head over there on Sunday, see who seems professional and has the sound you want, and ask if they want to drum for money. It's a really friendly group.

WOW! That is awesome! They need to put their stuff on craigslist! Where is Meridian Hill?

~I guess you super cool DCUMs do have the inside 411 after all. Thanks!

Meridian Hill is a good-sized park north of W Street and between 15th and 16th Streets. (Northwest.)

The drum circle is just a loose crowd of individuals who come together to drum and dance together. Some are good, some are just enthusiastic. If there's a core group of professionals, (such as might advertise their services) I don't know about it. I think you'll have to spend some time hanging out, scoping the ones with the required skill level, and chatting them up.
