Fire in upper NW?

Americans have ALWAYS harbor end contempt and distrust towards WHOMEVER is part of the most recent immigrant wave to come to our country. Latinos from Central and South America are just experiencing what the large waves of immigrants of Eastern European, Italians, Greeks, Irish, and Germans experienced in past generations. While that doesn't make it okay, it does make it a common and shared experience. Most of us have an ancestor or two who were treated with the same suspicion and contempt.

And, I assure you, it is not just in Washington where this happens. In fact, I know from experience, it's much much more virulent in other parts of the country.

As has been pointed out many times, all it takes is waiting for the housekeeper to take the trash out, get the mail, you name it. Or, even knocking on the door. Once the door is open, you don't need to force your way in.

Or was that just used as a cover story to get the cash? Were the calls that were made to the accountant, etc, to get additional funds, or was it for the $40,000?

None of us know for sure, we weren't there. Just going off of reports and rumors.

i will be watching to find out. Because of the consulting cleaning business, lawn care, and construction the mother has on her website, I think they tried to get connected. And the conflicting stories are still out there. There's some background I think.

Read the website again. She isnt in these businesses. She said she can create a website for people in those businesses - she just named a bunch of common small businesses.

(We do-thx to us behind behind in investing). But if I was tied up in a house I'd have zero ability to get this money on demand. For one, I don't have an "assistant". Who would I send in this errand? Plus banks don't even stock that much cash in hand.
There's no ways these crooks just randomly happened upon a guy with large amounts of cash on hand. They had to have known about this in advance.

Don't think the perp or perps are that sophisticated. Probably saw the house, car, etc and thought they were robbing rich people who have a lot of money. Learned later that even rich people can't get their hands on large amounts of cash, only 40k, and got angry and ran.

why then were the police saying they thought it was someone familiar with the family routine?

The police said because there was no forced entry and also so that people would not shit their pants en masse realizing we are all a knock on the door away from an unspeakable crime.

I guess that's true. Better to know it then live in denial I guess. My husband is always telling me I am not careful enough. Sadly he is right.

Not true. Google her name. She is listed as the owner or project manager as late as 2015 for multiple contracting/home renovation businesses. Yes she also has a website where she offers to be a business mentor too but if you scroll down the google hits it's very easy to see that the suspect's mother runs or owns contracting companies (located in Rockville, hyattsville).

I'm locked down like Fort Knox on steroids at my house. I trust no one but the man I share a bed with.

I have always been slightly paranoid about safety.

If I called my assistant and said I needed her to cash a $40k check, and she has all my checks, and deliver cash to the house, she would know there was trouble, but if I said 'just do it, its important to my family that this not be shared'....

She would do what I asked. I am the CEO. She trusts my judgement.

There would be $40k on the doorstep. She would know there was trouble, but also trusts me that I am making the best call I can make, and would honor not calling in help.

Thats clearly what happened.

I will be talking to my assistant that if I ever make such a call, F what I say.

The math is give them what they want. Everyone did. It didn't work here.

Can we rein in the racist rhetoric, please? Kthankxbye!

Aside from the takeaway of telling family or assistants to call the cops if they get this call, I'm also taking away that people willing to take hostages are prepared to kill. It's like the don't get taken to the second location thing. Don't get tied up in the chair. Act like they are going to kill you and start fighting for your life from the beginning. These things seem to end in death, or violent rape (not that that happened here) often enough to risk fighting early on when you have your strength and they might not expect it.
