My in-laws are contemplating a move to MoCo. They are interested in rental apartments that are extremely close to grocery stores and other amentities, as they probably won't be comfortable driving around.
Any suggestions? I think there is one above the Harris Teeter on Rockville Pike. Any insight into that one? Other ideas? Is there anything in Rockville Town Center or some place not quite on a major thoroughfare like Rockwille Pike? Other great ideas for places for retirees to live? They are not interested in assisted living at this point, and there budget is about $2K per month for a 2 bedroom (if possible). |
| what about Friendship Heights. There are many rental apartment buildings there on the MD side and a Giant and many other service related stores within close walking distance. Plus side they are near the metro if they want to take advantage of cultural activities in DC. There a lots of older folks that live there because of the convenience of the location. |
| Friendship heights. |
| Good suggestions. I will check, although I suspect that it will be pricier there, than further out in MoCo. |
| The Kentlands in Gaithersburg. Maybe you could find a condo to rent there. It's a planned community with a commercial area. |
| Tenleytown. Lots of apartments, metro right there, grocery store and other walkable stores. |
| Rio in Gaithersburg. Falls grove in Rockville. |
| We live in Friendship Heights - we rent a condo for $1960/month. It is a one bedroom with a den and 1.5 bathrooms. The den could be used as a second bedroom. We are literally two blocks from the FH whole foods. |
| Oh and the $1960 includes all utilities and garage parking, as well as amenities like an indoor pool and gym. Lots of older folks live here. |
| You might try the White Flint area, along Rockville Pike. The Gallery at White Fint is one to check out. Has a small grocery downstairs and is 5 min walk to metro and Harris Teeter. |
| What about the Blairs in downtown Silver Spring? You've got the Giant, a few restaurants and other shops right there, not to mention metro and more a short walk away. |
| Downtown Bethesda, either near the Old Georgetown Rd Safeway or near the Arlington Rd Giant (or in between, since it's about a 5 minute walk), but the apts. close by may be more expensive. |
There's no grocery store within walking distance of the Rio, unless you are counting Target. |
| Rockville, behind Congressional Shopping Center. Lots of older people live in that area and walk everywhere. |
|
FWIW, there will be a new building opening in 2014 in Bethesda (Battery Lane and Wisconsin) with a Harris Teeter and apts (and there are reasonably priced apts nearby on Battery Lane).
You might even consider checking what apts are near the route of the Bethesda circulator (free) bus. |
