Kensington Cooperative Nursery school has spots for 4-year-olds!

Kensington Cooperative Nursery School (KNS) has openings for the 2012-2013 school year in the morning fours class! The class meets M-F 9-11:30. We've been so happy with the school, with its caring, experienced teachers and dedicated, involved parents. The sense of community fostered by the cooperative program is a wonderful environment for young children.

If you are interested, please contact Ari and Shira Reeves, Membership Chairs, for more information at info@knscoop.org.

KNS has provided a nurturing, encouraging and enriching environment to preschool children and their families since 1939. Developed by our outstanding educational staff, the KNS curriculum is developmentally appropriate and play-based and offers opportunities for small and large group, active and quiet, and indoor and outdoor activities. Physical, cognitive, sensory, problem-solving, and emotional skills are developed through opportunities for play, experimentation and exploration in classroom areas, or "centers," and children are encouraged to make choices regarding the activities in which they participate each day. The classroom atmosphere encourages freedom of expression, as well as the importance of respecting the rights and feelings of others.

For more information about the school, please visit our website at www.knscoop.org.

KNS is an equal opportunity school. We welcome students and families of any race, religion, orientation, and national or ethnic origin. KNS is accredited by the Maryland State Department of Education.

I've looked at KNS and have some questions. Based on their hours, it seems like it is a place that only works for a family with a SAH parent. Thoughts?

Our family has been there for 4 years. The school has some SAH parents, some part-time working and some full-time working. The working parents pretty much all have nannies or au pairs so they are using preschool as an additional enrichment for their children and not as daycare. It would be very hard to work at all and use KNS as your only daycare. However, if you do have a nanny or au pair and can take some time off 1 to 3 times a month to work in the classroom, you can pull it off as a working parent.

Makes sense. So, basically, it only works for SAH families or working families who are wealthy enough to pay for a nanny AND preschool? I don't mean that in a snarky way, just trying to figure out if it is a viable option for my family in the future. I live in Kensington Heights and I've heard good things about it.

Yes I guess that's true, not that it is full of wealthy people but that it is part-time and insufficient as daycare in and of itself. And it is very inexpensive, with monthly tuitions between $100 and $200. It's really a great place if it works for your family's schedule. Kids can start at age 2, so maybe keep it in mind for the future! See you at Kensington Heights park.

The tuition rates do seem VERY reasonable. Thanks for the info!
