Let's just get this one out of the way - No, I have never met Dorothy.
Moving on... |
| Have many friends do you have who were born outside the US? |
| can you recommend a job there so I can leave DC? |
| Do you get lots of tonados? |
|
throughout my life, I have not had many friends born outside the US. I SAH, but during the years I was in college and working, I had quite a few. We are looking to move to DC, and this is a BIG reason why. It's what my family loves about DC. My DD describes it as "a town that's made up of little bits of the rest of the world." I live in the KC area, and was born in a small town in KS. Most of my friends were born in other small towns in KS.
Sorry, no jobs around here! That's another reason we want to move to DC! |
| I'm from Kansas but live here. Have you lived in the DC area? |
|
I would say that we have to run to the basement because of a tornado warning about once a year or so. People who don't live here tend to think it's much scarier than it is. Most houses have basements, and there is plenty of warning with tornadoes. We have sirens around town that go off when there is a tornado coming our way.
The one that hit Joplin last year was devastating because that was a VERY rare situation where there wasn't much warning. I have lots of friends and family that live there. Thankfully, they were all ok, but it was the scariest night of my life as I waited to hear from everyone. I drove through Joplin last fall and it broker my heart to see the damage. (Joplin is obviously not in KS, but right on the state line). |
| I haven't lived in DC, but we spend lots of time there for DH's job. |
| How is the crime rate? Were you born there or why do you live there? |
| OP again. Interesting thing about tornado preparedness. You should keep extra shoes in your basement for each person in your family. Most injuries from tornadoes are people getting their feet sliced up when they are trying to walk through the debris. |
| Have you been to the world's largest hand-dug well, world's largest ball of twine, or the Davis Memorial? Have you been to Guy and Mae's for ribs? |
|
OP here.
DH and I were both born and raised in KS. Crime is not bad, but it does exist. I am in the super safe suburbs, but I lock my car and my house. I've had my car broken into in KC (safe area) and the small town where I grew up. Crime is mostly targeted, but there's enough random crimes that it keeps me from letting my guard down. |
| What does DH do that you come to DC often? |
I have been to the well as a kid. I stopped by the davis Memorial one time on a work trip. Weird. Never been to the ball of twine, but I've heard it's actually more interesting than it sounds. Never heard of Guy and Mae's, but I would be happy to check it out sometime and let you know. Where did you hear about it?
