I live in Kansas. Ask Me Anything!

I love Kansas! I used to live in Prairie Village and went to Belinder Elementary School. I love the Nelson Art Museum. I would move my family there in a heartbeat. I miss Kansas.

Forgot to ask: Arthur Bryants or Gates? Which do you like better?

OP here. I love PV too! If we end up having to stay in KC, I want to move there. If you haven't been back for awhile, you should come visit. The downtown has been revitalized and the arts scene has made a lot of progress. It really is a good place to raise a family. DH and I are just ready for a change since neither of us have ever lived elsewhere.

Arthur Bryants BBQ! Also love Oklahoma Joe's but Bryant's is my favorite. Not a fan of Gates.

Re Guy and Mae's...

IIRC it was a bar in Williamsburg, KS. My classmates at Washburn who were from towns nearby insisted we make the road trip there for the ribs... They were good, but I was wondering what another Kansan might think of them

I did make a roadtrip to Hiawatha for the memorial... Had read about it and decided I needed to go. Interesting story! Never made it to the other places (twine and well).

Signed, former Kansan who moved to KS from DC area, and would move back quicker than a heartbeat if I could...

Yes, but it's not nearly as complicated as it seems to be out there. I read dcum posts about schools and all these acronyms, and I have no clue what you all are talking about! The KCMO school district is bad and lost it's accreditation. So if you live there, you have to do private, charter or magnet. One of the bigger school districts on the KS side is past it's prime as the areas are full of empty nesters. Other than that, the other school districts are great. It's not something people have to worry too much about when buying a house.

How do you feel about the fact that your state board of education substitutes religion for science?

They are the same as where you live! I am currently reading Queen Bees and Wannabes because my DD is suffering the wrath of a QB. And the moms who were QBs in high school are still QBs today. especially when it comes to their kids and sports.
