Can you do IVF if you are a lesbian couple and have your girlfriend take your fertilized egg? Does she have to have a certain blood type to carry my child? Is Natural IVF better if we are fertile?

Yes, op. people do. I'd ask for recommendations of doctors who work with lesbian couples.

You can. It is by an order of magnatude more expensive, as you're putting one person through the egg production half of IVF and another prepped to receive the embryo, but yes it is possible. I would also talk to a lawyer, just to know your rights.

I think this should be in the TTC forum.

Yes people do this. We are doing IVF/Surrogacy and it is expensive enough that you should consider using the IVF method that has the highest likelihood of success, even if it is not a natural cycle.

The woman who carries the child, in many states, will have superior parental rights until such time as all legal matters are resolved. For example, in Md the name of the woman who carried the child will go n the birth certificate as the mother. Revising the birth certificate requires the fling of papers with the state.

The mom who doesn't carry the child has to adopt the child in order to change the birth certificate. It's not just filing papers with the court.

I hope you did this. I would pity any poor child raised by someone so compassionless that they would think this, let alone post this. No child deserves such a horrible mother as you.

Hmmm...this wasn't true for us. We are a heterosexual couple who used a surrogate to have our children. We live in MD and our case was filed in the Montgomery County system. We had a pre-birth order filed that established that we were the genetic parents of the child, that the surrogate had no biological ties to the child and was only a gestational carrier and our names were court-ordered to be put on the birth certificate. They were. The biological mother did not need to adopt the child and her name was put on the birth certificate. This was all done in the third trimester, but before birth. Copies of the court papers were sent to the hospital legal department for them to submit when they filed for the birth certificate.

Mostt fertility clinics in the area will help you. It is much like a donor egg cycle.

Did I understand this correctly? Some lesbian wants her lover to be her surrogate, instead of carrying her own baby?

Is there not some kind of regulation to make sure she is able to even provide a home and is of a stable mind?

Fertility doctors do not hand out candy

God I hate vicious trolls.

Perhaps the lesbians in question would both like to feel involved in the creation of this child. (Duh.)

Dr. Preston Sacks at Columbia Fertility does this all the time, and he is completely unfazed by the sexual orientation of his patients. It does cost about twice the cost of a regular IVF cycle, though.

Michelle Zavos in Silver Spring can help you figure out the legal issues.

If the lesbian couple is married in D.C., both women will be on the birth certificate.

Good luck!
