| There must be interest if they are offering it. Is anyone considering this program? And how old is your child? |
|
I am so excited by this program!!! It's actually cheaper than if you strung together all the care options (by a little bit)...for more coverage!
My child will be in the 2s program. I'm told there are still more spaces. It is extremely pricey though. Does anyone know how it compares to other pre-schools (location works for me so I'm locked in already). Only concern I have is that it sounds like the staff and programming will depend on the level of interest and the teachers who want to do it. i.e. if a non-Montessori certified teacher is available, then it will be more of a "free play". |
| Current Franklin parent here. We really like the school but I would be cautious about believing that this is really a full 12 months of coverage. You should look at a calendar carefully as Franklin had a lot of closing. They also only do half days before any breaks. With carlane staggered you end up dropping your child off at 9 only to turn around and pick them back up at 11:30. If they are not guaranteeing the camp activities they can easily cancel them. I have always gotten the impression that Franklin does not see itself as child care and would prefer not to do extended year or camps if it didn't feel forced by to by working parents. |
| Franklin has announced a new 12 month program that does not have the winter and spring breaks, and goes until the 3rd week of August. There is also after care from 3:30-6. |
| DS will be starting in the primary program in the fall, and we are seriously considering the 12 month program. It would save us from having to cobble together care for the extremely long winter and spring breaks, not to mention all the teacher workdays, etc. The only thing that concerns me (other than the price) is the level of interest. It would be sad if he's one of four kids there over spring break, for example. |
OP here. This is one of my concerns too. I think we are still going to do it because it works out to be slightly cheaper and it is less disruption than an arrangement with summer camp and backup daycare. But I really hope there are at least enough kids to fill the classroom. I did talk to the director about it and she said that although the kids may be in a different classroom on certain days and during the summer (which is what they do during the 11th month anyway), they are going to try to do the same Montessori schedule. FWIW, they have 3 or 4 primary kids who signed up immediately. |

I work FT so I don't really have any other options that wouldn't be a huge effort (as you say, cobbling together random day camps etc). At least this is the same place that DS would be used to.
The way I see it, the smaller classes on the days off will be an opportunity for more individual attention. DS will be in the 2s so I definitely hope others sign up! |

Hi - is this Franklin on CT Ave? Do you know if you had to be on a waitlist already? I am very interested for my son
thanks! |
| Yes, Franklin on CT Ave. There are spots avail for 2 year olds...don't know about primary. |
| This is good to know. One of the reasons I ruled out Franklin when I was considering moving my 3yo was that I didn't want to have to deal with camps etc. I'll definitely look into this for next year, although I don't know if they consider applications for kids entering at 4yo. |
| Do you happen to know what the price is for the 2s program? I emailed the contact listed on the website but just curious. thanks! |
| Price for full time / 12 month? About $28k |
|
I would stick with Family Academy of Bethesda- they are full time accredited/ MSDE but still prices much less.
They are opening a new classroom for 2 1/2 year to 6 year olds in the fall. Great teachers/nuturing caregivers/ Montessori accredited 12 months curriculum. They are located off of Connecticut Ave. They do have 2 two year old classrooms as well. They call it Montessori Toddler Program .I have my DD in the baby room and DS in the 2's room. |
| Again, PP, do you work for Family Academy? This thread had nothing to do with it, and yet here you are popping up. |
Where did you find that? Is it on the website? I found the calendar but can't find the tuition. |
