My experience was with our small Catholic school in our area which all of a sudden got hard to get into. I called in June and told them that we would take a spot at any time even if it was right before school started. I knew the office closed for the month of July so the first week of August, I called to check in to see if there were any spots. There were and we are thrilled.

I found that if you are polite to the admissions people and just call to check in they really don't mind it. Sure we got lucky, but I also played it well.

You didn't really say "I also played it well," did you?!? Very pleased with yourself to find a spot at your small catholic school. Somehow the OP of this thread is probably shooting a bit higher and looking for movement at a big 3 or something comparable. Congrats on playing it well in your small pond.

Yeah, I kinda LOL on that one too. Not sure if she realized how smug that really sounded.

Actually - I sort of found the last 2 pp's to sound more smug - the Catholic school parent is a private school mom/dad like the rest of us & was very nice to reply in a positive and encouraging manner. OP never said big 3 - you just assumed that - plenty of non Big 3 schools have waiting lists too -as shocking as that may seem to those folks who are obsessed with the Big 3.

That's great -- glad your persistence was rewarded. Don't worry about the naysayers, your advice was helpful.

Thank you. I was trying to be helpful. And don't worry...I typically ignore the nasty posters.

OP, thanks for the suggestion and I'm glad it worked out for you.

I think there are people here who believe anything other than a Big 3 school just isn't worth considering. And I actually know kids who have gone to non Big 3 schools and have gone on to be very successful in life. Some of the kids actually went to (gasp!) public schools.

There are some of us whose child fits into a non Big 3 school better. And I'm not talking special needs here. I'm talking about a good fit for the child.

Kudos to you, OP.

Okay this a w/l discussion can we get back on topic? So, any
W/l movement out there?!?!?

I would doubt there would be much (if any) wl movement at this point. The contract binding dates have passed and tuition for the year has been paid (or pledged).
