She was incredible!

I agree totally. It made me wish she was the candidate. ![]() |
I love Michelle Obama! On a purely emotional level, I loved her line about when Barack drove her and their new daughter home from the hospital "at a snail's pace," and the weight of responsibility for this little life that Barack felt. Brought back my memories about bringing DS home. When dating, I was always arguing with my husband about his driving too fast. Suddenly, after our son was born, he drove soooo slowly. But that story really just represents the dramatic change I saw in my husband when he became a father-- how serious he became, how worried about every little detail of our son's day. As a wife and new mother, I was so comforted to realize I wasn't alone in how profoundly the ground had shifted under me.
Well, as a political scientist, I'd like to think that my academic training has inoculated me from these emotional manipulations... and indeed, I could give you a decent political analysis of the evening's events if required... but for now, I'm just going to relish having a potential first lady that I can really relate to. |
really? It felt fake, overly planned. He looked so YOUNG, don't know didn't get much of a presidential vibe from him. Nice guy perhaps but president? |
She was fabulous! I think she swayed my DH's vote and he's definitely a Republican that usually only votes for his party. That or he just has a crush on her!!!. |
She was great. My husband is a Republican too (and a WASP) for what it is worth, and he thinks she is just terrific. We had an interesting conversation last night about she can appear "strident" (his words) where we talked about if you were a black female from the Southside of Chicago, who had achieved as much as she has, might you be perceived as being a bit strident too? I am tired of accomplished women getting pegged with the strident knock. On the other hand, while I love her, I think the body politic may not be as progressive as we would like, and still prefer a Barbara or Laura Bush of first lady. As a student of politics, I would also say Cindy is alienating in her own way.

Don't worry, your candidate's Stepford Wife will get her chance next week. She'll probably bring you to tears about how her family is worth $100 million dollars, & don't deserve to be taxed because they earned it. BOO HOO HOO!!!! |
Is this really about looking old?? The man is brilliant, accomplished and effective. And he happens to be older than Bill Clinton and JFK were when they first ran for President. Do yourself a favor and look beyond his looks. Take the time to learn more about his qualifications and accomplishments. Obama would be a phenomenal president!! |
We recently did this and as she described their drive, we both got a little teary remembering our drive home. I think this election year has made us also slow down in other ways as well and truly think about the future and how our vote really does impact our baby. |
Maybe it's time for a changing of the guard. Michelle had to earn her stripes and was not born with a silver spoon in her mouth. I can relate to Michelle but not to Cindy. Cindy McCain looks like a stiff cupie doll. Barbara, Laura, & Cindy are very olddddd school. I don't want my daughter to look up to them and basically become a shadow of their husbands' accomplishments. Please. This is the 21st century. Somethings need to change! |
I've wished that all along. Unfortunately, she seems far too real and honest for politics. |
Can someone please post a link to Michelle's speech? I live abroad and haven't had a chance to see it yet and can't seem to find it anywhere on the internet. Thanks. |
I agree with first poster. Michelle babbled on and on about her oh so "hard working normal American life"....PUL-EASE. Their tax returns are 6 digits and in 2007 they made $4 million. |
Umm....they didn't start out that way, you'd know that had you lF you were listening.... |
And, for the record, I was talking about McCain's wife, NOT Michelle. |
