Oh honey, this is manipulation and gaslighting at its finest. Michelle thinks she’s getting a magnet school when in reality she is a piss poor superintendent who cares more about her money than her students. She is a narcissistic sociopath who markets equity with her pseudolesbian persona and makes horrible decisions that impact us all, except her big beautiful board. |
Fox Mill parents should fight to move to Western. Apparently Meren cancelled her meeting with the FMES PTA while meeting with others. Then she sends an email that she wants FMES moved to Hughes, which doesn’t seem to be a mistake. I know some Fox Mill parents want to stay and I myself was torn between SLHS and Western, but realize that there is a significant risk of moving to Hughes if we stay with SLHS and Meren stays in office. We will be better with Western High. |
Honest question - why are Fox Mill parents so against Hughes when those are the kids your kids will go to high school with? |
|
So only students in five FCPS pyramids can "opt in" to Western, yet FCPS states on its web site that Western offers "unique opportunities you won't find anywhere else." I hope someone in another part of the county like Mount Vernon sues Reid for promoting these unequal opportunities. All that stupid woman cares about is making her magnet disguised as a traditional school sound "special," so she can stick it on her resume before she leaves. We shouldn't let her get away with this shit. |
You sound deranged. Seek help. |
Carson has been Fox Mills middle school for as long as I have lived here. Fox Mill AAP students go to Oak Hill, so their AAP peers tend to go to Carson. This means that the AAP kids joining their Fox Mill friends and their friends from ES at Carson. Not to mention, Carson has far better after school options, hands down. There is no real comparison. A large number of the FMES families want to move to the new HS. Some of the families I know who have opted in have surprised me, I fully expected them to go to SLHS. I know rising 10th graders switching to Western. SLHS is a good school but people have asked for AP there and have been told no. Somewhere between 125-200 students, dependent on the year, pupil place out of SLHS for AP. Those families are opting in to Western this year. Why would we want to move to a MS that is IB when people have been saying and voting with their feet for AP? |
Because we should have never been rezoned to SLHS in the first place. |
PP must have been having a bad day. |
Why are we still dwelling on something that happened 15+ years ago? South Lakes was MUCH different than it is now. Meren sucks but there was obviously enough people who wanted to stay at South Lakes from Fox Mill that she’s recommending they stay. |
When the initial changes were made, I had to sell my house and transfer my kids to Crossfield just to avoid SLHS. It’s still ungood. |
It has nothing to do with what Fox Mill parents want and everything to do with what the other parents at SLHS want. They know test scores drop if Floris and Fox Mill students move. Meren cancelled her meeting with the FMES PTA and has not rescheduled. She is not listening to the large number of families that want to move. People didn’t want to move from Oakton to SLHS, some people still are upset about it because they didn’t want to move to an IB school. Kids Pupil Place to Oakton, Langley, and Herndon for AP. There is a reason why people want to go to Western and it is not a small number of people. Meren is not listening to those people. She doesn’t want test scores to drop, that is why she wants Fox Mill tostay. |

The current rumor is that there is almost 2,500 "opt in" applications for the 1,000 potential spots (500 freshman and 500 sophomores) at the new Western High School!
Crossfield mom here - two of our neighbors are opting their 8th graders in. Indian.
This sounds unbelievable to me. They just sent the email out yesterday.
I'm not surprised that Indian kids would choose Western - there is a huge Indian population at Floris and McNair maybe family friends want to stay together? Not to mention if Western has an AI focus - those families know where the jobs are going to be!!
Oh give me a break. There are other demographics they will be moved and not just every Indian under the sun.
Learn how to read. PP said her Indian neighbors chose to opt in. This was a comment on that. OMG, how dumb are you? |
So once again this is about AAP parents getting what they want. I sense a trend here. If they want to keep kids in pyramid, they should: 1. Put Fox Mill kids in Hunters Woods for AAP --> everyone goes to Hughes/South Lakes 2. Put Waples Mill kids at Navy for AAP --> everyone goes to Franklin/Oakton for HS 3. Put Crossfield kids at Oak Hill for AAP --> everyone goes to Carson/Western for HS It's not hard. |
No, it’s that Fox Mill wants to move to Western, it never wanted to move to SLHS in the first place but was forced to. Happy to have a chance to correct that mistake. |
