Most 5th graders will go to Deal for 6th, about a dozen headed to private schools.

Wow! She will definitely be missed. Lafayette was the most amazing elementary school experience for my son and daughter!

Forced out. Way too many complaints from parents. The new Vice Principal was a mole. Henderson wants her out. It's the chicken dance. "move to an undesirable school or retire".

yes that's what i interpretted in the letter. also looking for some support for her to stay.

Murch parent here - I am glad we are not the only difficult parents around, after the last two principals lasted only two years, I thought we had developed a pretty bad name

Is this an opinion or lap legitimate account? Calling out the vice principal as a mole is pretty serious. I don't doubt complaints from parents but if this is true there should be a serious shake-up at Lafayette next year from the top down.

I once met Principal Main. I was wondering how she would fare up there CCDC. She seemed like a tough customer and not one to suffer fools. I really thought her candor was refreshing.

This is definitely not the case. She was officially reappointed to Lafayette for next year but is choosing to try something different. Also high school principals make a lot more $$ and she is close to retirement I think.

Echo 19:18. Met her first during Rhee and she seemed pretty open about wanting to get back to a, her words, real school. Can't imagine what Henderson did to get get to stay. Hope she stays in DCPS even if my ward 3 kids don't have her as principal.

This is not a force out. This has been in the the works for months.

Right. More of an ease out.

Also, on a related note: Why isn't Lafayette autonomous?

A lot of Lafayette parents have blinders on.... They see what they want to see. Lot's of smoke and mirrors going on at Lafayette.

I wish that each time a statement like this is made the poster would elaborate. We are a new Lafayette family and it would be more helpful to have actual information than opinions.

Not the pp you're asking, but here's a possible interpretation: By virtue of demographics/family support, Lafayette will pretty much always do well. Its success, in terms of test scores and other objective metrics, is basically guaranteed. But that doesn't mean that it is well-run. And it doesn't mean that it couldn't be a much better school that supports its students and families more effectively.

A really good principal can make a huge difference, even in a school with as many built-in advantages as Lafayette. And a mediocre/inflexible principal can hold a school like this back. I'll leave it to PP to validate/provide examples.
