MAP-R score and explanatory report came home today anyone else get one?

For the first time, my child brought home a printout from school with dc's MAP-R RIT score and dc's national percentile ranking. This has never come home in the past. I'm curious if others received the same information today. I got the end of year Math assessment too (which I have seen every year) but this is the first time the MAP-R report has come home.
If this is new MCPS policy, I applaud it. This test is very informative and helps a parent to know if their child needs additional academic support. I've received dc's score before but never the explanation of what the RIT score means -that is new and very welcome.

They are given at least twice a year - Fall and Spring. I don't think Winter, but I'm not positive. I get a report each time and have since my kids started taking them. The report comes from the school. I believe I got one of my kids' Map-R around the 10th of May. I can't remember about the others.

I got one today too. More info than usual. Interesting. My childs score dropped a point over the course of the school year which doesn't seem like a good thing but still good to have the info..

At what grade do they start taking MAP-R?

At our MCPS ES, this was the 1st year our child took the test (3rd grade). We got in the Fall and the Winter. Today we got the end of the year report which included the scores from Fall and Winter and Spring along with some percentile rank and the benchmarks for proficient and advanced.

I can't remember for sure when they started, but I do know that a MAP-R was administered to my son in second grade.

In MCPS elementary schools the kids in 3rd - 5th grades take the test three times per year.

Total agreement. Never seen this before today, and love getting the info.

Kids start taking it in grade 3. Some kids take 2x per year; others 3x per year. Kids who are at or below grade level take it in the winter. Advanced kids only take it at the beginning and end of the school year.

Agree, nice to see something that explains what the scores are and what they mean in some kind of context!

As far as I know this is the only out of level test MCPS regularly performs so it really helps a parent to know if a child needs more academic challenge. If your child has a RIT score which is comparable to a high school student when he is in 4th grade for example, you might want to ask the school about grouping and curriculum choices for the rest of the school year or the next school year. The nwea website on the report that came with the score can tell you what the distribution of scores are for different grades.
Of course, I tried this without any success - was told they would try to make sure dc had at least one child at dc's reading level. I can't imagine any teacher having the time to do anything special for a "group" of two kids!
I am really hoping the MCPS approach to grouping will change in middle school.

This statement in BOLD above must be different from school to school. That was not the case in our MCPS ES school. All students in grades 3-5 took it 3 times.

We also had this conversation in the fall of 3rd grade (after seeing the results) and got the same answer as you did. This prompted us to apply to the HGC for next year. Disappointed that our home school wouldn't accomodate grouping the kids of like ability across grade level to form a peer group.

Same. My DS works above grade level and took it three times this year. He also took it last year in second grade.
