I think you are on to something. Stilts are the most efficient form of transportation because they take up the least amount of space at ground level. You may have accidentally stumbled onto the most revolutionary and transformative, environmentally sustainable transportation plan of all time! |
No, let's do it your way. Ban buses, bikes, and pave the underground rails for cars to drive on. Has circulation increased? |
The bicycle bros would say that nothing would change because everyone who had traveled by car or bike would just take up stilt walking. |
Are the Bicycle Bros related to the Density Bros? |
People who drive, yet find driving insufficiently convenient, should try using a different mode of transportation. |
Same goes for bicyclists? |
One and the same. Nothing says 30-year old white guy like bike lanes and increasing density. |
Bicyclists simply want a safe means of travel. Being crammed into a side lane where cars, trucks and buses pass within a foot is, not safe. |
Astonishingly, this is actually one reason why more people don't travel by bike: because it's often inconvenient and unsafe. The difference is that bicyclists benefit when more people travel by bike, whereas drivers are worse off when more people travel by car. |
I think most Washingtonians would say that bike lanes make the city a worse place to live. They help a tiny number of people at the expense of everyone else, who have a harder time moving about the city. |
Riding a bike in a major city is inherently dangerous. I know bicyclists are 100 percent in denial about the risks they are taking. But it is extremely dangerous and there's nothing the government can do to turn it into something that's even somewhat safe. |
Bikers want exclusive access to public goods. |
You don’t get it. The people they help are 30 year old single white guys, inherently the most important people in the world. |
Astonishingly, bikers don’t realize that more people don’t bike because they don’t like to bike. |
That's a silly thing to say. There's nothing inherently dangerous about riding a bicycle, major city or no major city. The danger comes from cars and their drivers. So, how can we make it safer for people to ride a bicycle? By adding safe bicycle infrastructure. Which will, in turn, encourage more people to ride a bicycle, and that will also make it safer for people to ride a bicycle. This bike hatred on DCUM is pure bigotry. There is no such thing as a "biker". We are people. When we ride a bicycle, we are bicyclists. When we take the bus, we are bus riders. When we walk, we are pedestrians. When we drive, we are drivers. If you, personally, don't want to ride a bicycle, that's fine. Nobody is going to force you to ride a bicycle. |
