And guess what. Did that Facebook group apologize or even express mild regret? Nope.

They're describing the parent behavior last night as being "passionate about their children's education and feel[ing] honor-bound to express their concerns."

Shameful.

^ nothing shameful. You just want to ram this nonsense down their throats and expect them to gladly take it. That’s not going to happen, this will be one helluva fight, this much is certain. Also, MCPs and BOE are looking ridiculous parading students to defend their agenda. We will not be taken town by a bunch of 17yr olds.

You all are an embarrassment to Montgomery County.

Wasn't at the meeting, don't condone the nastiness there or here. But even though I'm not an MCPS hater, I don't think the board or the superintendent has done a particularly good job of managing this process. I'm part of the management of a relatively small organization and even I know that you don't start asking questions until you know (and have built support for) the answers.

And while I appreciate the passions of the students, it's inappropriate from all sides to put them on the firing line around big structural changes. Their perspective has value, but 17yos aren't in a position to thoughtfully address the complex issues facing one of the biggest and most diverse school districts in the country.

Nobody is putting them there. They are putting themselves there.

And they certainly are in a position to thoughtfully address the complex issues about their own schooling and their own future - just in a different way from yours.

Major credit to the 17 year olds who have been showing up to meetings. Frankly, they are doing great research and community engagement. That’s the good news. The bad news is - that is the BOE’s job!!!!

Honestly, the BOE is showing NO leadership on this. VERY disappointing.

Actually it's the consultants' job. Which the BOE hired them to do.

The consultant works for BOE. Their absence from these meetings is stunning. They hung the consultant out to dry.

Why is it stunning? It wasn't a public hearing. The board members are at those. This was an information session, where the consultants were supposed to be able to do their presentation, and then groups of people at tables were supposed to have informed conversations with each other.

Because they knew it would be contentious. They could have introduced the consultants, then let them take over. It’s ridiculous the consultants and the kids are the face of this operation.

If they no longer have the energy or the will for the job, then it’s time to step down.

Just as I had suspected. Ok, not suspected, I know rich white MCPS parents are all racists.
