+1000- I wonder the same thing about people who move here from Indianapolis, Columbus OH, or just some podunk town from "middle america". If this area sucks so much, why don't they just move back to where they came from. |
Transplant married to a native.
This thread is ridiculous. The 0.5% of transplants who can't stand DC and either think it is too busy, rude, expensive, and full of traffic? You just can't hack it. The 0.5% of transplants from NY/London/Paris who say that DC isn't a real city and can't compete with the bright lights back home? You're pathetic. I don't know why you are so insecure. Try to get out some instead of sitting around lamenting what you left behind. The 1% of DC natives who can't stop moaning about how DC isn't like it was in the glory days, and about how all the transplants can't pronounce Glover Park correctly or stand on the left or some other nonsense? Get over yourselves. Cities change. That's what happens. If you can't hack it, go ahead and leave. The other 99% of you? You guys are great. The mix of natives and transplants, young and old, the whole shebang - you all mix together and make DC a great place to live. This transplant loves it here, and his native wife does too. And neither of us can wait to see what happens next in our awesome city. |
Many of the natives I have met talk about their high school glory days. They went to ok colleges. No one in their 30's and 40's cares about what you did in high school. For the record, I went to an elite high school in NY and went to ivy league schools. I don't talk about high school, college or grad school. Get a life. |
And? What's your point? No one is saying that was the best time of their life. They are saying there are certain cultural differences that transplants display that natives find annoying. Reading comprehension is your friend. |

See, I can't imagine why anyone would think the natives are angry. :sarcasm: |
Laying it on a little thick, no? |
Aw yes, because the diatribes from transplants saying "you can take your list and SHOVE IT!!!!!!1!!!!" followed by paragraphs of anger seem so very calm.... ![]() |
I don't think you understand the difference between "annoyed and unimpressed" and "full on angry" |
Natives are annoying and clueless. Most of them will never fully adjust to "life in the big city" |
Your point? Why don't you move back to your "big city". DC is where I was born and raised and I love it. No need to move to a "big city". |
D.C. native here. Personally, I wish it did not transform as much as it has. I love that it's a smaller city. I personally do not care for New York because it makes me feel claustrophobic. So that is just your opinion. I know MANY people who feel the same as me. |
So, what I have learned from this thread is that some transplants like to bash the locals. Some locals like to bash the transplants. So basically, there is no difference between the transplants and locals. Perhaps instead of looking at what is different and what you don't like, try to find what you do like and commonalities with other people. You may enjoy life a little bit more and not be such miserable curmudgeons. |
Threads like this are why we shouldn't retire the word "retarded." |
