Funny...I've heard atheists echo the same thing about these millennial's who practice Atheism. They're arrogant and look down on others who don't agree w/ them. |
Interesting perspective. Especially considering every religion since the dawn of mankind, began by making a "mess out of stuff." All religions started by going against the grain, and by followers who no doubt angered/frustrated their parents and community. It's how things evolve. There is no growth possible, if you don't color outside the lines. Again, doesn't mean you have to suddenly denounce religion altogether. But allow yourself to explore, question, and experiment - other philosophies, other religions, other ideas, or whatever curiosities you may have. You may come back. But without a journey, all faith is weak faith. |
| As I've said before, the unknown is what scares me the most and that's why I color within the lines. I don't think I'll miss anything by doing that. |
OP, with all do respect, it doesn't sound like you "don't get" atheism. You get it. You're just more closeted about it. It's a lot like someone who's gay, but lived their life as straight, and colors between the lines because it's how they were raised, and don't want to disrespect their parents. And it's scary, because it's unknown territory to explore. It's fairly understandable, if you haven't had room to explore. But I think you "get" atheism - it's just a term that feels uncomfortable to you, because there are labels associated with it that you were maybe raised with, viewing it in a negative light. |
| OP how about you "try" Atheism for a few months. If you don't like it, go back to being religious. If you like it, well...then you know. |
My parents wouldn't give a fuck if I chose to be Atheist, but I do for some strange reason. I just do not want to be viewed as abnormal or weird. |
You are trying to remain religious because it's what you know and feel comfortable with even though you've said several times that it doesn't feel authentic to you. It's cool. You can do whatever you want. It's one of the benefits of being an adult. |
You may not be an atheist, but you are kind of coming off as abnormal and weird to me, sorry. |
I'm not weird at all, I just tend to over think shit and worry about what others think of me. |
I know it's obnoxious. I don't talk about it. I don't even want to feel that way. I just find the idea of religion ridiculous and don't understand how smart people engage with it. I don't walk around thinking I am smarter than whoever. I leave it alone. I just think it's strange. |
YOU'd be a part of a national trend -- a part of the fastest growing minority in he US, especially among your millennial peers. You'd fit right in |
| Not the OP, but the fastest growing minority is hispanics and please don't say minority. Most Atheists are white folks. |
