Me too. |
A related question: Isn't the existence of God separable from the existence of souls? |
also related -- where does it say in the bible or in church doctrine that people have souls and that their souls go to heaven or hell when they die? |
Here's one. This is Jesus himself talking in Matthew 10:28: "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell." Do you need more? |
Well if you take into consideration Jainism and Shintoism even rocks have souls so I would say so. |
I don't get it. Why would a statement of their belief make you hate Christians? I am an atheist from a deeply religious (fundamentalist Christian) family, and it doesn't make me hate them. It does makes me feel embarrassed for them though. I used an analogy about Batman on one of the Religion posts, and so, if you are talking to a grown adult, whom you love and you grew up with, a person that is a great parent and has a great career, and they tell you that they believe that Batman created the world and that they pray to Batman every night, it's just uncomfortable. It's not an eye roller because you love them, it's just you don't want to hear anymore about it because it's cray-cray. |
Of course! If I believe in God, and believe in people having souls, why would I not believe that atheists have souls too? Regardless of their beliefs?
The God I believe in is not petty. Nor he needs us to save Him or make others believe in Him. He can handle it by Himself or Herself. Thank you very much. |
I think praying to Batman is weirder than praying to Jesus for this reason: many people are taught as children to pray to Jesus. Right now, it's the majority of people in the US. They hear it from their parents, in church, on TV,in the movies, etc so it becomes a very accepted, even required thing to do. Can't say that about batman. Anyone who prays to batman is way outside the norm. The only thing that some people would say Jesus and Batman have in common is that neither of them have super powers it's equally useless to pray to either of them - but they would say that about everyone - super-heros or not. |
where do you think the atheists' souls go after they die? |
not pp. I think if a person chooses to deny God even up to the point of death (who knows if there's opportunity afterward) then that person will exist for eternity apart from Him. This would seem like a win-win for atheists, they don't believe they spend eternity with Him after death and they don't. |
where apart -- hell? |
uh So if an atheist spends much of his/her life doing charity work, for example, and working at humanitarian nonprofits, once s/he dies, your god would be that petty? lol so much for a loving god |
The Christians don't believe that good works will get you anywhere.
You can be a mass murderer but if you accept Jesus at the last minute before your execution - then You Are Saved! Yeah, and they think believing in Batman is outside of the norm? |
But theoretically an atheist wouldn't care, right? An atheist is bound and determined to have the lights go out and that's it. So why are you worked up if a fairy-tale believin' loon thinks an atheist can choose not to go on after death? |
If I had been raised in a home where Batman was our savior, a painting like this would be revered, yes? lol ![]() |
