I am an atheist, ask me anything.

No, but it sure seems that some religious people think they are pretty special because they have a personal relationship with the big guy upstairs.

What could be more egotistical to think the ruler of the universe is a personal friend?

Or that He listens to your prayers and heals you, while letting the rest of us suffer?

He said "Follow Me" .

What did Muhammad say?

But is God not inside oneself? And so is the Devil, no?

or that he has a "plan" that involves great pain for some of his creatures and great comfort for others.

If you met God, what would you ask him?

OYE that was funny!

Seemed pretty sophomoric to me. We need to upgrade DCUM's atheists.

Since an atheist doesn't believe in any kind of afterlife, they must live their one and only life the best they can. Now killing someone may or may not bring them guilt, but it could and most likely would significantly impact their one and only life negatively. Being chased down, locked up, and potentially executed would basically be wasting your one life over some possessions. For this reason, most atheist would never kill someone. Where as a believer, and many do, may kill on behave of their God believing it will improve their standing with God.

New Atheist here -- I wouldn't kill because I value life -- everyone's - not just my own -- because I know we're all very lucky to have gotten this one life that we have.

Another atheist here.

I wouldn't kill someone because I'm not a sociopath. I have empathy. Committing violence is unpleasant to normal people.

Love it. 6.5 million children under the age of five died in 2012, so that's about 700 children an hour. But my brother believes that God got him his new job. Really? Your God got you a job but let those children die why? Oh, that's right - God works in mysterious ways.

So, what do you like to be called? God? Allah? Vishnu? Zeus?

OP here, the only way that would happen is if I met someone whose name happened to be God. I would say what I normally say, "how do you do?".

Perhaps you could recruit some sophisticated atheists of your acquaintance.

But first, tell me -- do you think of God as your buddy? If so, have you thought about the logistics of this? Or is your response that being god, he can do anything -- and chooses to befriend you, instead of keeping thousands of children alive.

Not sure why you chose to dodge the question. Perhaps its just too heavy?

I am not dodging. There is no "god" in my mind, so there is no question to ask. The closest miracle question for me would be "if you could meet someone from history, who would it be?".

why do you let groups like ISIS butcher innocent 6 year olds, cut off their heads and put them on a stick after making them watch the murder of their parents and siblings, put them through physical and emotional pain that is beyond belief?
