NEU isn't a reach from good schools and full pay. The acceptance rate at our school is about 70%. |
You don't need much "research " basically applying to half of the T25. 🙂 |
OP, this is the fault of you and other adults filling her head with the notion that she would be a shoo-in for top schools. I told DD her dream school was one that accepted her, and we could afford. Once acceptances are in hand, then you can fall in love. The adults advising her allowed her to put the cart before the horse. As others said, look on the bright side that she has several good options. |
Yes, I'm jealous of a teenager who thinks that having inflated grades and Mommy and Daddy's non-profit guarantees her a spot at some of the best universities in a world. Give me a break. |

This is why $510M is being cut at Brown. I recently sat in on a student session from a top 3 school and was horrified by the poor communication skills of one of the students. Who are they letting in these days? She will be probably become an AO. |
It’s been many days since Brown RD came out. You need to get her to stop comparing with her classmates. |
Now THIS is bitterness and jealousy. The school liked another kid more than yours and you will never know why. Move on. |
Brown was one of the schools that DD had the least hope for due to their very holistic approach - They seek the "quirky" applicants. |
Not the PP, but sound like you and DD could benefit from getting knocked down a peg or two. At this point, admissions are out, kids will pick their schools, and no one will ever again care how hard you worked in high school. It is no longer relevant. Help your DD focus on the future and picking a place where she can be happy. |
Exactly what I was trying to say. It's common knowledge that T20s are looking for more than just academically qualified applicants. I don't know why it comes as such a shock that Ivies are looking for more personal ECs. |

It stings. She can always transfer. |
By VT do you mean VA Tech? Tech is better than UVA for engineering anyway.
And Lehigh is a great choice for engineering. I do agree with those stats I would have expected a bit more success tho! This was a competitive year, but I wonder if maybe she had a bad rec? Did you read her essays? |
I hate to see the hate. I am so sorry this happened to your DD. It hurts. She had amazing stats and it wasn’t unreasonable to expect more acceptances. Hang in there.
TJ sends a bunch to Pitt every year. Both my kids applied and toured, and we were impressed. Pittsburgh is a great place to go to school! Hope it works out! |
