What % of class goes T10? What % of class goes T20/25? |
Almost everyone of these have $50k-100k per year counselors right from 8th grade. |
No, they do not. The schools themselves provide the college counseling. I personally know a kid well at one of the privates going to HYPSM with zero outside help. What he does have is 1580 on the SAT that he got at one sitting the summer before his junior year, a 3.95 GPA and a niche major that is his true interest and intended course of study. The rigor at those schools is insane. Their students are extremely well prepared for college and do very well. |
No but they use the school's CCO heavily. And have "essay review". No counselors. At a private like this, you actually don't NEED the heavily manufactured Reddit-type bios (which are public school bios anyway). There's a big difference between a public school bio and a private school bio. |
Not at Hunter, they don't. Usually a handful of Ivy-bound athletes (like about 5 per year). That's it. Typical Hunter results - HYPSM: 10% HYPSM+Ivy non-Cornell: 20% All Ivies + other T20 + WASP: 40% There are always kids who turn down T20 schools, even Ivies, due to financial need/getting a full ride elsewhere. |
People here love to use terms others might not know. Makes them feel superior. |
There’s a big split between public school profiles and private school student profiles. You need a lot less at a private school to get into the T10.
I’m not sure if it’s because they know the kids are prepared and qualified & view the private school as offering the same type of “stamp of legitimacy” that some sort of third-party Competition would offer for the public school students, but it is something we see all the time. The quality of your private school also matters a lot more than people think. Not all private schools are treated the same in the admissions process. - private counselor |
Or, as is the case here, acronyms they completely make up. |
What is going on with HACK? In the last week I’ve noticed it everywhere on here. Who’s trying to make HACK happen? What schools is it referring to and which school in particular is someone endlessly trying to promote? |
HACK is WHACK |
I think the person who keeps spamming it is trying to push Haverford, Amherst, Colby, Kenyon, and somebody theorized that the person went to Amherst and was trying to push it; I don't think that's likely, as they'd just promote WASP, right? I think it's a rising freshman at one of the other three who didn't get in to a school they wanted to, and so is trying to promote the one they got into so they feel better. I don't really care which of the others it was. All I know is that it makes Haverford, Colby, and Kenyon all look weaker every time I see them throw the acronym on a thread, and I came into this with positive associations with those schools. I've actually started to flag those posts, in hopes of getting them removed, like when spray painted tags against walls get painted over within 24 hours. |
It is a high school troll. Ignore. |

Or a grandfather that was Vice President. |
The top kids at a non-East coast/West coast private that has a mostly UMC professional crowd tend to go to a wider variety of schools- state flagship honors programs, more schools outside the T-10. They are more likely to come from the “striver” type backgrounds and may be more likely to be one of the first in their families to attend a selective private college. |
Agree with this logic, they’d use WASP. I’m going with Kenyon. |
