It would have been nice for GDS to have sent it in on time, but the crazy chairman could have asked GDS for it or given them a reminder.

GDS is obligated to provide the report. It is their responsibility. The ANC actually cut them some slack during the pandemic and they seem to have taken advantage of that good will. So the ANC had to have a meeting to see if GDS was going to fulfill its obligation. Wouldn’t it have been easier for GDS to have submitted timely? Do students at GDS get to submit reports and papers late? Is it the student’s responsibility to turn assignments in on time or the teacher’s?

Yes, and GDS admins admitted that they were late in filing the report. I truly do not understand how that turned into fodder for the bully leading the meeting to then accuse GDS of encouraging parents to commit fraud. He is off his rocker with unfounded rage. I watched the video with my husband, and we were shocked by his behavior.
And by the way, students submit papers late all the time, they get reminders from teachers, and sometimes there is a point penalty. It certainly does not turn into a teacher screaming accusations at the child of attempting to defraud the faculty and school.

The issue is that GDS visited the ANC multiple times during the time it was out of compliance and didn't say a thing about being out of compliance the first year and knowing that it would be or was out of compliance the second year. GDS board of trustees knew about both years noncompliance and they didn't notify the ANC or other agencies. When GDS actually intended to reduce its class size, like this year, it needed to send a letter to its community telling them it needed to cut back. That's what started this thread. Everything points to GDS not taking any serious steps to prevent its second year overenrollment.

Why didn't the ANC ask GDS during these multiple visits what its enrollment numbers were?

Wait, GDS skipped two years, not just one? And then neglected to disclose? Now that’s contempt!

SO TRUE!

Apparently GDS and its parents do not consider Wisconsin Avenue a PUBLIC STREET. They think of it as an extension of their own private roadway. So much for private education.

That's because the MOU says nothing about forbidding drop offs/pick ups on Wisconsin Avenue. Apparently the ANC thinks Wisconsin Avenue is off limits, but the MOU states otherwise. Don't be dense.

So the traffic count is a fraud and GDS parents are OK with that?

yes

SO TRUE!

Except it's not SO TRUE. They missed one year. And corrected it as soon as they realized it had been missed.

It is so ironic how GDS parents are calling the ANC a multitude of names, but not realizing their leadership misrepresented them, their children and the entire GDS Community for 2 going on 3 years. Your anger and name calling are misdirected. Look within people. Lots of highly educated and successful GDS people pointing the finger at others for their own wrong doing. Just own up to the mistakes and make it right. You are setting a terrible example for your children.

Most communities understood this and the schools business model and waived the caps given the crazy situation. Any business owner or operator gets it. This is a lasting effect of the govt shutting down schools in DC for almost two years. These schools had to operated in crisis mode with tons of local govt uncertainty for two years.

So much for “community understanding” or prioritizing effective education.

You cannot be serious. They collected over $4 MILLION dollars for over enrolling and want a slap on the wrist. Why should the community take the hit because they are greedy.

Do you know what it costs to educate each student? That money isn’t lining anyone’s pocket. I think the ANC comes off as completely unhinged here.

+1. The ANC comes off very poorly here. The cost of tuition does not cover the cost of educating each student, so no one's getting richer. And what "hit" exactly is the community taking? GDS admitted that it failed to file the notice of increased enrollment in a timely fashion.
It's truly bizarre how much the ANC leader seems to despise the school. This is NOT how public officials should conduct themselves.

GDS comes off very poorly and shows it contempt for the neighborhood by not even submitting required paperwork. I bet they were hoping no one would ask for it and they could pump up admissions even more. You know thats what they wanted to do but they got caught. It’s like they are standing up and giving the finger to the ANC. Wonder what other things they “forgot” to submit? I bet they are very understanding if you are late submitting your re-enrollment forms or your tuition.

Is this the values that GDS teaches-game the system, agreements and contracts are for suckers, deadlines are for poor people, screw the neighbors(they are all white males), etc? Looking forward to GDS suing residents of the neighborhood because GDS has more money and can crush the littles.

You are clearly from the ANC, and, you know what, I feel sorry for you. There is no contempt from GDS for the neighborhood, and there is no intentional malice. It just makes no sense for a school to invest that much money into its new campus only to try to snub the ANC. I feel sorry for you because it must be awful going through life with the attitude that everyone is out to mock you or to take advantage of you. And as for the white male obsession, you do realize that the Head of School and Board president are both white men, right?

Hey you are the one calling the ANC commissioner an “ angry white male”. By your response I can see why the ANC was limiting time. They wanted to let the neighbors speak, not get personally attack(as you personally attack posters here) and wanted the meeting to end before 5am.

NP. The neighbors were mixed in their opinions but they only cut off those who were speaking for cooperation and understanding. It reminded me of authoritarian regimes. I don't really have a stake as don't live close enough to have felt the impact of the school traffic a lot but I just want to clarify facts.

So to clarify the fats no one called the ANC commissioner an anger white male?

The fact is that the school missed reporting 1 year (not 2 or even 3). The fact is that the school did own up to their mistake. Who is writing this stuff? Are you even paying attention?

Is there a video of the meeting?

You are not paying attention. What year are you alleging was the only one missed? HOW did GDS own up to their MISTAKES (yes, that is plural)? You are delusional and the prime example of privilege. It is showing.

GDS is not gonna make the Big 3 with this deplorable behavior.

Agreed GDS F-ed up big time not submitting the over-enrollment information.
I am a GDS parent and have problems with multiple issues at GDS similar to this regarding disorganization.

However...that video was OVER THE TOP CRAZY.
The ANC guy is a lunatic. Nothing productive got done and he seems like he has some crazy personal vendetta against the school that has nothing to do with the best interests of the community.
.
I have truly never seen anything like it. It was like an SNL sketch with Chris Farley.

I was actually proud of the GDS folks for keeping their cool and trying to be courteous and business like.

LOL it was totally like an SNL skit—complete with one of the neighbors singing a song instead of providing a comment. The yelling ANC chair, the neighbor who kept asking “can you hear me…”, did I mention the yelling ANC chair?

LOL, right! Totally SNL skit - with the GDS parents rolling their eyes when being told they are not following the rules - the nerve! Or how about when the Head Master collected millions of dollars over the years after breaking a contract and then wanting another year? Down right hilarious!!!

Resident here. These anc folks make us Tenleytown residents look dreadful and they can't seem to decide what they're even angry about. I'm live adjacent to another independent school and I can't imagine having a bee in my bonnet about traffic or cars briefly stopped during small and predictable parts of the morning or afternoon. I'm frankly delighted by having kids, families, athletic fields, and playgrounds around. If I need to wait a few extra minutes to get through an intersection so that children are safely dropped or picked up, I think I'll survive I also welcome the idea of local schools hosting athletic and community events. If parking is soaked up in front of my house, so be it. That's what makes a neighborhood a family friendly neighborhood.
Would it be better to have another bank, vape store, costco? Would that make the neighborhood safer, more attractive, less congested, and more pleasant? Heck no.
Anyone who has watched the video has seen how sadly incoherent and angry the anc (and their representatives) are over mind-numbingly stupid stuff in the overall scheme of things that are important in this life. The rage seems to waft into ramblings about elitism, Teslas, and money. I'd love for someone to analyze that component. As an aside, I can't help but wonder what their toxic tactics would be if MacArthur HS was moving into this neighborhood instead of the Palisades.
