I went to Dominion fertility clinic about 2 years ago when I was having trouble getting pregnant with my first. I has an HSG and DH was tested and they could not find anything wrong with me or DH. I eventually got pregnant taking clomid and was relieved I did not have to pursue anymore with Dominion (Dr. Gordan).
Now I am trying for a 2nd, but I was not terribly impressed with Dominion b/c they were WAY too busy and kind of cold. Can anyone recommend their doctor in the fairfax area? I am near fairfax hospital - falls church area. |
| Dr. Paulette Brown at Shady Grove in Fair Oaks. |

Here's the deal, I worked for Sharara at VCRM. He's a pretty straight shooter, if you're slightly overweight he will go right to that and recommend a strict low carb, no alcohol diet. And yes, he can certainly be an ass. But the thing is, he gets results. It's a small office, you will see him for every appointment and his nurse, Jo, is one of the most nurturing people in the world. I truly believe he would have lost numerous patients over the years if it weren't for Jo.
If you read up on the TTC forum about him, several people have had billing issues with him in the past. I know the person that was his office manager at that time is no longer around so I don't think things are f'd up as they once were because that woman was one of the most clueless people I had ever met. She is actually the reason I left. I do also hear great things about Shady Grove in Fair Oaks but all of their retrievals are at the MD office and several appts are with nurses vs the MD, so it just depends what you are looking for. Marci Krop-Cook is amazing as well. She hasn't been doing RE work for very long but she is a great person with a wonderful bedside manner. I don't see her stats on the SART site but I'm sure you can ask if you call. |
I am actually underweight so maybe he or she will tell me to eat more. Is Sharara a man or a woman? What nationality (it does not matter, just curious). Where is VCRM? DO you know anything about Dominion? |
| I went to Sharara and actually loved going there because it was a small practice. I found him to be very nice and Jo was the sweetest nurse ever, it was great to start off this struggle there because you always saw the dr and I guess you could say there was a lot of hand holding. He has great stats, but unfortunatly I did not get pregnant in my two cycles there so I have moved on to an out of state clinic. I go to Shady Grove Fair oaks for local monitoring, I've been three times and I was afraid of the whole "factory mill" i always read about but they are actually super friendly and take plenty of time with you, no rushing out the door. I would go with Shady Grove if I were you. I have heard great things about Dr. Brown at Fair Oaks. |
| Dr. Frankfurter at medical GW fertility and IVF. |
| Dr. Widra at Shady Grove - he works downtown DC and Sibley locations. He's extremely competent and knows his stuff - felt very confident with him. |
| We switched from Sacks at CFA to Frankfurter at GW. Wish we had done sooner. He is very thorough, and the practice is well-run. The process is much less stressful there. |
| Dr. Preston Sacks at Columbia Fertility. One of the best doctors I have ever known. |
that's only the 2nd time i've seen dr. marci krop cook mentioned on this board. i go to her and love her. she and her staff are warm and caring. and very responsive as well. i had good success with her!

| Dr. Eric Levens at Shady Grove Annandale. So very nice and helpful. I didn't find Shady Grove to be a factory just efficient. There are some things that do require going to Rockville. |
| I really like Abbasi @ Columbia |
| 10:21 pp (who works for Shahara): May I ask why a low-carb diet would be recommended, vs any other type of diet? I am overweight and going to be doing an FET in about 6 months, and would love to know how a low-carb diet could affect our chances? Thank you. |
| Dr. Frankfurter at GWU Fertility and IVF. He is very thorough and the practice is well-run. Morning monitoring can be a little assembly-line-ish, but I daresay it is the same anywhere else. The nurses are also kind and super responsive to email. |
| I saw Frankfurter and Widra and liked both of them - if you might want shared risk, SG is a better deal (or was when I did it). |
