Do you check your bank account balance?

Anonymous
Just got my account balance. I never have time to check my balance and autopayments / deposits come and go. I live dangerously, not knowing if the balance will dip below zero. I am amazed how luckily I was to not bounce a check of not have enough funds to cover an autopayment.

Is anyone else living dangerously like this?

Yep and I haven't balanced my accounts in 12 years.

Daily. And I balance my checkbook, too.

Daily. I can't imagine not doing this. It takes 30 seconds and then I always know what is going on. I don't even think I own a checkbook.

Daily. I quickly balance daily as well. Even on vacation. Like a PP, I cannot imagine not doing it at this point. I find it incredibly stressful not to know exactly how much disposable cash I've got at any given time.

Never. Every time I try, I have to reset my password because I do it so infrequently.

Yep a lot of people just have an app on their cell that tells them if they go below a certain dollar amount. The banks live on that...lots of fee.

I check my account once every 3 or 4 weeks. I know what I have in there within $300-400 and beyond that, why would I need to know down to the penny? I'm not wealthy by any measure, but I do spend pretty much the same amount of money on the same things week in and week out. I only check if I need to go outside of the rut.

I find it funny that some never check and others check very frequently. For those who check often, if you wanted to, could you just increase your checking balance so you have a little cushion and not check so frequently? Or do you just need to know how much money you have at all times?

I look at my account about once a week. I do keep a cushion (about $5K - it's an interest earning account), but I like to make sure my account or debit card hasn't been hacked. I check my credit card online about once a week too, for the same reasons.

Seriously, just increase the balance?

I like to make sure I am being charged for things correctly. And, it takes no time at all.

Hit submit too quickly. Meant to add that I always have a large buffer, but I still like to keep track of my money.

I check every few months or so, my husband much more often (he fears identity theft).

Our bank offers mobile banking, so I set it up to send my a daily text with my balance. That way, I can figure out if there have been any fraudulent charges, and helps keep me in check with spending. Also, I set up a text alert in case a purchase over a certain amount is made, so I can deal with it immediately if it actually is fraudulent.
