Is the FSIQ new information? If so, I would say the chances are good.

Just did the WISC today so totally new info.

I think chances are good, then. Best of luck!

Let us know how it goes. If a child who gets a 152 fsiq should absolutely get in!

GMU or private tester?

Private.

LOL.

Yes, sadly some people find the idea of GMU using STUDENTS to perform the test quite hilarious...just as others may find the thought of being treated by a medical INTERN quite disconcerting, especially when your life is at risk ...but rather than mock them lets give them the benefit of the doubt and hopefully in 15-20 years of additional study and research they will attain the same level of experience as the private tester.

That is a huge discrepancy between the cogat, GBRS and the WISC. Did your dc have a NNAT score?

Anonymous
No the we missed the first grade NNAT test and the school did not think it necessary for her to do the NNAT as she has 135 on the non verbal but the Wisc is a better reflection of a child's overall abilities.

and besides she was in the pool but got kicked out because of her dismal GBRS.

Your child was not kicked out because of the gbrs. The pool is just a a mechanism for ensuring kids get evaluated. Just a small point. I would guess with an fsiq in the 150's, you have nothing to worry about

ALL kids get evaluated through the Cogat and/or NNAT tests AND the GBRS. The former 2 are highly Objective whilst the latter is largely Subjective. The fact that the latter can override the former 2 is evidence that Subjectivity is allowed to trump Objectivity, hence my conclusion that they were 'removed' from the 'objective' pool. I am not against the GBRS but when its used to blatantly manipulate and affect a child's future, one has to question its integrity. After all, educators are human and prone to external pressures and personal biases and can easily manufacture dismal GBRSs.

PP: You completely wrong. a 135 CogAT borderline for AAP. Furthermore, with the prevalence of prepping, the score could mean an IQ of 100 well prepped, or an IQ of 150 having a bad day. The tests are an objective measure of something --- something which is neither intelligence or giftedness. The scores are dependent on the following (in no particular order): Intelligence, Prep, Kids Mood, Kids Attention Span.

The GBRS is a measure of a professional's observations of a child.

This why there is an appeals process. I would look into why the kid got a 6 on the GBRS. Based on the WISC, she is smart, but is not displaying it in class.

Oh, and the system is not stacked against you.
