Dumb Question about Waxing

Anonymous
Ok, I'm sure this is a stupid question but I just can't figure it out. I was told that you have to let your hair grow out a month before you can get it waxed. So those of you that wax, what do you do for that month? You just go hairy for a month for the benefit of being super smooth for a while?

Please explain. Thanks!

Yes. It's worse the first time or if you haven't waxed in a while. If you wax regularly, only some of your hairs will be long during the wait because not all hairs grow all the time.

you might not have to wait a full month. sometimes only 2 or 3 weeks.

I have been wondering about this too. So how often can you really be smooth if you wax? And how long does it have to be while you wait?
Anonymous
Kind of. After you do it for a while, your hair doesn't grow in as fast or as thick. I think you just deal with it while it's growing back. For me, I don't like shaving, it always seemed red. And there are certain areas you just can't laser...

So all of the women who have Brazilians are stubbly and then hairy for 2 to 3 weeks.

Yep, this is what stops me from getting a wax - - I cannot stand to be stubbly for any length of time. I can't imagine how un-sexy that is to be between waxes. Seriously?

And how long does the smoothness last after a wax?

And this is why I went through the very painful procedure of laser hair removal. I've been waxing for years, but it didn't matter in the past because I didn't always go to the pool. Now I have kids and am at the pool almost every weekend in the summer - last summer was horrible, so I finally just used hair remover (Nair) or shaved rather than waxing as I didn't want to let my hair grow. This winter I took the plunge and endured the laser. So worth it. My hair has simply stopped growing where I had it removed.

Post-waxing regrowth looks completely different from post-shaving regrowth, even if it's your first time waxing. Hair grows in spurts, so only a few will resurface right away, and they'll look less obvious because of the tapered tip. If you shave, within a day you can see blunt ends poking from every follicle.

My legs are on week 5 post-wax and I probably need to wax this weekend - I am just hitting the point where I wouldn't want to wear a skirt. Although, you'd still need to stare at my legs from a foot away to notice anything.

really? which center? how much? I've been waxing for years too, and while the hair is much thinner it still gets long and my kids are getting pool ready. can you give me the scoop on laser?

and to OP, yes, your hair has to be a certain length for the wax to catch it. If you're serious about waxing winter is your best season. In summer I shave when I need to, and then it only takes about 10 days after shaving for hair to get long enough.

I wax my lip and brow every 3 weeks religiously. The first 2 weeks or so, there is almost no growth at all. By 2 days before my appt, it starts coming in here and there more noticeably and I am always grateful to know my appt is near. But others probably don't notice the growth nearly as much as I do in my close-up mirror. I never wait a full month.

I went to Dr. Palestine's office in Bethesda. She is a plastic surgeon/dermatologist and has a spa next to her office. Their site is dermskin.com

I waxed at 40 weeks 1day, baby was born 40 weeks 5 days. Baby is 4 weeks old and just yesterday the first few hairs started growing.

Like PP said the hair grows thiner, lighter, there are absolutely no stubs and they grow far apart from each other. I can wax every 3 weeks if I want but I usually wait 4 to let more hair grow.

If I must Hide any hair i use bleacher the week before the wax.

Everyone is different. I get stubble 10 days after a wax. My hair grows really fast
