That is Meren's plan, that doesn't mean it happens. She has been aggressively trying to counter other school board members and Reid for the last 6 months. |
It is quite rare for School Board members to step into another member's district decisions. I do know of one case when it happened, but it is extremely rare. I think all of the students in boundary for Fox Mill are in Hunter Mill, so I would question any other member recommending otherwise. I think Fox Mill parents who prefer the new school would have to present good, solid rationale for sending them to the new school. I don't see it, though I certainly understand it. |
They moved kids out of Annandale against the wishes of the Mason District rep and they moved kids out of Woodson against the wishes of the Braddock and Springfield District reps. It happens. |
Did the kids moved from Annandale live in the Mason District? Did the kids moved out of Woodson live in the Braddock and/or Springfield District reps? |
Some of the Annandale kids moved lived in Mason (others lived in Braddock) and the Woodson kids lived in Braddock. |
All 4 of the proposed plans left some of those kids at Westfield (I believe half of Floris?) |
And that's great for kids and few parent chaperones (and I bet they raised money themselves for part of their trip). Does anyone need a SB member tagging along to Hawaii(!) at OUR expense ("the County" = taxpayers) just so she can get a few pictures for her newsletter?? No one questions that? |
They did raise the money themselves. So many FB posts with fundraising events. I feel bad for the kids who can't go, I am sure that there are some. Does she have a kid at SLHS that might be in the band? I know she mentioned a kid getting their learners permit but I don't know what schools they attend. I don't know if the County paid for he to attend, that is speculation. I wouldn't be surprised... I suspect that the Fox Mill to Hughes is going to get a reaction out of the Fox Mill families. I don't think that is going to go over well. |
No.only c and d. Ironically, the ones closest to the new school. A left some of Floris at South Lakes, not Westfield. C and D were not good. |
It’s more complicated than that. It depends on (1) whether RIO moms are successful and (2) how much other board members are willing to send Lees Corner to Western. The wild card scenario is to send only Floris, Coates, McNair and Oak Hill to Western, leaving a big room for the specialty program. This may happen if a large number of out of boundary kids opt in. |
| The current rumor is that there is almost 2,500 "opt in" applications for the 1,000 potential spots (500 freshman and 500 sophomores) at the new Western High School! |
This is why I am curious about the final comprehensive boundary change. The scenario 4 still shows Emerald Chase is moving from Westfield to South Lakes. In other words, the plan might be backfilling Floris kids with Emerald Chase for South Lakes. |

Here’s what they need to do.
Once they refab the building and make it theirs, maybe find a way to make more capacity, they need to take all of Coates that fed to Westfield, take all of Crossfield, all of Floris, all of Fox Mill, All of McNair, and all of Oak Hill. Knowing FCPS, they’ll find a way to squeeze kids into that building. It’s their obsession. |
Who went to Hawaii? Frisch? |
Meren. Is it possible she has a child in the band? |
