If your pre-k child is injured (kicked in the mouth) by another child while playing on the playground (in sandbox), by whom and how do you expect to be contacted? Child was hurt and crying (but not seriously injured). Teachers came to see what happened, when another child told them what happened. TIA. |
I don't expect to be contacted at all. Why? |
If there was blood or a cut I would expect school to contact me. Otherwise I wouldn't expect to be contacted. |
Seriously? If your kid is kicked in the mouth by another kid you expect to hear about it when your kid gets home? |
We get written injury reports at the end of the day at pick-up. I don't see how this would be any different if my child was ultimately okay and didn't require me to pick him up early. |
I would expect the teacher to mention something to me only if there was blood/went to the nurse. I would expect that if it was done maliciously the school handled it appropriately. |
Child went to nurse. Other child taken to the office. She has hurt other kids before. Sounds like it would not matter much to you. Matters to me. |
So you were notified? I don't get what you are tying to get at. When you should be notified? Or what should be done about the repeat offender?
If my kid goes to the nurse the nurse calls me. If there is a problem with another child who has to go to the office then I am not notified if it isn't my child. |
Your child received a minor injury when playing with another kid. I never want my kids to be hurt, but it sounds like you are making a bigger deal out of this than it is. And you are angry at a pre-K kid, who was already punished for the infraction. Has your kid never hit or pushed another kid before? |
sue the parents and the kid |
OP again. Thanks for the perspective and the laugh, with this post. Thanks. |
I'd expect a phone call. And then a written incident report at the end of the day. The teacher, the parent, and the principal then have to sign the report and everyone gets one copy. |
I really like this approach. I got a half clued in email from the nurse (who was not present at the incident) saying that my son would tell me about it later. If it required an email from the nurse, then I need all, not part of the information. I actually think the teachers should have called. The nurse is not responsible for what happens on the playground, nor was she there. |
I agree this sounds too loosey-goosey for my tastes too. ![]() ![]() |
I would expect the school to call if my child were seriously injured. Otherwise, I'd expect them to notify me at the end of the day. |
