Ok fair except you act like he’s not in school for no reason. It’s not like FCPS or any other district just canceled school for fun. Some of you just struggle so much with accepting that sometimes things are out of our control.

Never out of people’s control. I shoveled my street for 3 blocks to get to the main road that was plowed. Sure would have been great if the neighbors helped. But wasn’t going to wait on a bunch of whiners typing away on DCUM all day.

Roads aside, who is responsible for clearing public sidewalks? Im imagining the ones alongside a busy road for a mile or two leading to the school. Is that also VDOT?

There are 200 schools in FCPS. Can you be more specific? “Seems like a lot” is pretty weak without an actual number. Or do you just spew whatever pops in your head at the moment with no real evidence?

Seems like it's an observation- not writing a scientific paper. I think the point was to inquire if FCPS or VDOT is responsible for school lots

If you read the thread, you will see it has been answered numerous times. FCPS is responsible for its lots. VDOT is responsible for the roads. No one is responsible for sidewalks or school bus stops.

Asked and answered so many times. No one is responsible for sidewalks that’s why everyone here who is physically able should go out and help. This. It isn’t melting on its own like it usually does around here.

Why on Earth would you shovel the street? It is easy to drive on snow that is below the bumper.

Not that we should have all locked ourselves in our homes for a week but driving over the snow is part of the problem. After the plows didn't come after a few hours, people just started driving on it, which packed it down into what is now a bobsled track on some streets. Again...I blame VDOT but people could have waited a little longer. Maybe all the people driving over the snow packing it down influenced VDOT to throw in the towel.

At least you’re not paying thousands of dollars in tuition to attend FCPS. Many private schools were closed yesterday (eg, St Mary’s in alexandria) for no damn good reason — while parents spend thousands for their kids to sit at home on a sunny (albeit chilly) day, after over 2 weeks of vacation (not including all the BS non-academic parties and crap the week prior to vacation).

Basically going on a month of no real school while tuition still being paid.

Count your blessings.

I think someone like a 100 pages ago came up with the best solution in THESE cases. When it gets several days in, maybe FCPS should access each school and just keep the worst ones closed. Of course there will still be bit-ching and moaning...why do they get to stay home and not us. Why do those kids get to go to school and not us. It's impossible to please everyone but the facts are...some streets are just still too dangerous for buses and kids. Just because some parents don't care, don't make it the best decision to send the kids anyway. Given the situation, I think FCPS made the right decision....and I'm assuming that tomorrow will be closed too. Why open for one day when the roads will still be suspect.

FCPS made the right call. VDOT completely abandoned the neighborhoods in my zip. There needs to be an investigation into what happened.

Like it’s such a mystery why schools are closed or why vdot stopped the ball. Bunch of lazy slackers.

Same with my neighborhood and zip code and what is most frustrating is how they changed the plow schedule from "Assigned" to "100% Complete"...without even coming through. Someone is lying to someone.

THE KID IS CRYING.
The kid on TikTok wanting schools to reopen is crying he "he got grade to fix"

HE WANT THEM TO OPEN-
He's going to get grounded cause he's parents are not okay with him failing classes.

I just drove my kid to private school on time. There are no trucks on the road. My public school kid is home sleeping.
