Please explain |
Given her position on religion, they have to accept some ambiguity for sure.
The US bishops just called out Paul Ryan for a budget hat represented randian values but not catholic ones. |
Someone is waking up! |
Both liberals and conservatives live with a host of contradictions in their politics. Some scholars (starting with Lakoff) argue that these seeming contractions make sense within the worldview in a way they do not to people outside the weltanschauung. More traditional political scientists would probably see the contradictions as a result of the structure of the American two-party system, which tends to encourage coalitions of ideologically different groups under the umbrella of each party (as opposed to multiple, more ideologically consistent parties that cooperate or not during each election cycle).
Those are the two theories I know, in a nutshell. |
True, but this is not a conflict involving party politics. The issue is the choice to espouse both Ayn Rand's philosophy and that of Christianity. It is pretty clear that there is a clear contrast between her vigorous advocacy of selfishness and the Christian obligation to serve the poor and unfortunate. |
The same way Republicans can be "pro-traditional marriage" and be divorced 3 times. |
cognitivie dissonance is quite common among the faithful of both political parties. |
Some Reps are Randian and different Reps are Christian.
Are you asking how the party can be composed of people who don't agree on everything? Because that is a stupid question. |
GOP is a big tent comprised of all people who are distrustful of centralized government control . |
Who says all republicans are followers of Ayn Rand? Or of any particular religious cult or fanatic? I mean, WTF is Ayn Rand? This sounds like a cult accusation. Weird. That's not my religion. |
Radian or Christian as relates to a politician is mental masturbation. They worship at the alter of expediency and the all the all mighty $$ |
uh oh, forgot to take your haldol I see. . . |
Uh, no one said that. Reading is not your strong suit. |
Not all republicans are even Christian. Plus, plenty of jewish people will be voting republican in this upcoming election (at least according to a bunch of doctors/dentists in MoCo who are closing their practices thanks to the Dems, and in light of what we've done in the middle east as it affects Israel). |
Yeah, right. Your ranks are swarming with pro-choice, pro-drug legalization, open borders types of all faiths and non-faiths, gay and straight, who simply believe in small government. And that's why your party is willing to sacrifice ANYTHING to reduce the size of government. Who cares about abortion, because it does not increase or decrease the size of government. And that's why large majorities of muslims, Jews, blacks, women, and Latinos are Republican. That's why you have split the feminist vote. That's why gay marriage is supported equally by both parties. Because your tent is so big and requires belief in only one principle. ![]() |
