I have a strange sensation in one of my ears. It waxes and wanes during the day but when it's there it drives me nuts. It feels like there is a caterpillar/insect in my ear. Tickles and itchy. I scratch and tug until it subsides. Now it is hurting from the scratching/tugging.
I've tried looking online but nothing is helpful. Others seem to have felt this but have gotten no help from a doctor. I'm not even sure what I would say. I was rear-ended a couple mos ago. Could it be linked? Any medical professionals able to offer an opinion? thanks |
| Tmj? The accident could have thrown your bite off which affect ear |
| Wax. |

i trust you wouldn't be so stupid as to shove a Q-tip down there, right? because that would be postively idiotic.
you have impacted wax and likely an infection. your canal is irritated. you need to see an ENT. |
You must be an absolute joy on a daily basis. |
|
Not sure about the wax. I have had ear infections and never felt like this. And, I keep my ears clean.
But, perhaps I don't know what I'm talking about. It just feels like something else. |

OP, have you been to a doctor? I couldn't quite tell from your post when you said you got no help from a doctor. If you haven't yet been to a doctor, call your PCP and say you are having some problems with your ear; pain and an uncomfortable feeling. They'll be able to look inside and see fairly easily if it is a wax build up/infection somewhere in the inner ear. Also mention the car accident, as I had a jaw problem and it presented itself like ear pain.
If you have already been to your PCP and got no advice/ help, I would def. go see an ENT. and like a PP said (although a little blunt), don't stick anything in your ear to try to relieve the discomfort. It could cause some pretty bad problems depending on what the issue is. |
| OP, there are many types of ear infections and you've probably had the most common ones. I don't mean to come off as a total bitch, but it is time to stop googling and trying to self diagnose. If you don't have a primary, go to a walk in clinic. Don't potentially cause permanent problems because you waited too long trying to self diagnose. |
| Maybe there IS a bug in there and it's been laying eggs... |
|
| The only person who should diagnose you is the one looking through an otoscope. |
| if it's just itching, could be allergies. my ears itch like crazy during allergy season.... |
| Could be a bug. My mom worked in the ER for about 25 years and they pulled out many bugs from ears, especially small roaches from kids. I doubt that's what you have unless you happen to have a roach problem in or around your bedroom? |
| My husband had an insect fly into his ear and get stuck. It was awful |
This! Absolutely. |
