What do I need to take into consideration when paying this sitter?

Next month I have an all day office retreat on a Saturday. My husband will be out of town. I need a sitter to watch my 5 year old for 7 hours, including taking him to his baseball game about 2 miles away. Like an idiot, I signed up to bring snacks for the team on the same day.

I'll pay extra for gas. And should I try to get my snack day changed? Or ask the sitter to carry them to the game? Pay some extra for the annoyance of this?

And he usually gets McDonalds after games. Should I ask her to do that too? Should I have healthier food available for her at my house or just give her $ for her lunch at McDonalds too?

And finally, is this asking too much of a sitter? I am hoping that as long as I pay well, this is reasonable. I'd especially love to hear from sitters/nannies. TIA.

This sitter is an adult? A college student, or older than that?

I don't think it is too much to ask--the sitter will probably be glad that the game will keep your son occupied for a good chunk of the time

I would get the snack day changed. Just have some light lunch at your house when they return and give her a little extra for gas money. 2 miles is not that far.

I don't think this is too much, but you have to discuss this with your sitter. Does she think it's too much for her? Is she comfortable with what is asked of her? Some sitters are more outgoing and love to get out of the house, while others prefer to stay at home and not drive kids around.

Buy something easy to transport at Costco or Target, e.g. individual packets of crackers and juice boxes. Sitter can take it to the game, should be fine.

Leave money for McDonald's, both sitter and son will be thrilled. Sitter can have a salad if she doesn't do burgers etc.

I don't think this is asking too much of the sitter, really I don't.

It's an adult day care teacher. I've Emailed the issue about the game so she can easily decline if she doesn't feel comfortable driving. I've offered my car or hers. I can take the bus to the meeting. I'll see what I can do about getting snack day changed.

Sitter here (full-time nanny who sits on weekends). I would regard this as an easy gig, since, as a PP said, I don't have to keep him busy! Compensate her for gas, send the snacks, and give her a twenty to buy them both lunch at McDs. If she doesn't like fast food, she can grab a salad or something there. They have some decent options.

Send the snack with another parent, you buy and drop at their house earlier in the week
