for my mom for mother's day. she's very low tech, no computer, no smart phone so ease of use is the key issue. any suggestions?

I bought my low tech mother a kindle when they were first released and no one knew what they were. I am an early adopter and my mom would still be using an IBM selectric typewriter if she could. She LOVED it. I told her that after Christmas I would come over and set it up for her. She did it all by herself she was so excited about it. She used it constantly. My dad actually bought her a kindle fire this year and she loves that too.

Got my 78 year old father a Kindle last year. He accepted it, kicking and screaming, and now can't put it down! Very easy to use.

I love my kindle touch.

I think either kindle touch or nook touch would be good. My 70 year old mom prefers the nook because she can go into a brick and mortar store to ask questions and even take a class.

I love my kindle, but they are a lot easier to use with computer access. A lot of them use wi-fi if you want to check out library books (an awesome option) and if you don't have wi-fi you need a usb cable and computer to check them out. She can use the kindle without any computer or wi-fi (through the 3g option) to purchase books directly on the kindle through amazon, but it's clunky to use the kindle web browser and I prefer to purchase on my computer.

Maybe a nook would be better if she has a local barnes and noble that she goes to.

I gave my mom who is not great with technology the Kindle because it has its own network and I didn't think she'd be great at understanding the whole need for wi-fi and/or getting books on the computer and transferring to the device. If you think your mom would have any trouble getting onto a wifi network or understanding what that was, then I'd choose the Kindle (as long as its the one with the network included - I think they have different models now).

my husband had the nook and found the kindle more comfortable in his hand. now he has the kindle.

oh, and spring for the 'no wifi' one. It is really fun to buy a book whenever the mood takes you.

My in-laws have both a Nook and a Kindle and the Nook just don't work for them. Glare has been an issue and it just isn't as comfortable.

(I was appalled they crossed platforms but they were seduced by the idea of portable email...)

I have a Kindle and adore it.

We love the nook color!
Low tech considerations: Very easy to use. You can go to the brick and mortar store with any problems and real people help you -important for my mom! Also very easy to buy books, and can read for free in store.

However, the new kindle looks great, the books appear to be cheaper, and it has advantages if you have amazon prime membership!

love the nook color. has some good apps. My wife spends her time about 1/2 books, and 1/2 netflix.
