Agree with 19:17.

Books anytime is absolutely the best feature of the Kindle for me. At the airport At 11 pm. On I-95 (while a passenger). Needing wi-fi would be limiting.

Is there anywhere you can actually try out a Kindle or is it all online only? I want to get my mother an e-reader of some kind as well. I got her a Sony e-reader a couple of years ago because it was the only one that supported borrowing library books at the time, but it was too clunky and she wouldn't use it, so that was $300+ down the toilet. It looks like they all support the library format now, so I want to try another.

I don't think I would get one with 3G because she's out of the country for 6 months every year and it would be useless where she goes. Whatever it is it has to be easy to use, no small fiddly buttons, because she has macular degeneration (another reason I want the e-reader).

So, pardon my ignorance here, but if the Kindle has 3g does that mean you have to pay a monthly service fee like for a phone?? How does that work?
