If you use a house-cleaning service...

...do you ask the cleaners to use your own cleaning products, including your own mops, sponges, vacuum, etc.? I do, because the thought of them using the same mop that they may have used on a handful of other houses that day (and spreading hairs, grime, etc. from other households around our floors and surfaces) makes me cringe....but my sister thinks this is anal and crazy. So, do others out there require their cleaning ladies to use your supplies?

definitely my own chemicals and cleaning solutions; never thought about the mop issue

yup, my supplies.

there's no way I want their dirty mop all over my floors or the dust from another home in my house. we're extremely allergic so this is a big one for us.

OP, I think you make a very valid point. I don't think you are crazy. I find it disgusting, too.

I personally don't use a cleaning service (I know.. .I'm completely missing out..)

But if I did, I would think and feel the same way you do. I would definitely make sure that they were using my cleaning supplies.. their detergents and stuff wouldn't bother me as much (I'm assuming they wouldn't be recycling it I don't see much harm from them using theirs..) as say mops, brooms vacuums, rags , towels and sponges, i would want to make sure all of that was mine and only cleaning my house.

Cleaners use my supplies at their request. I know companies that give a discount for your supplies or use theirs for more.

Agree with you 100%, OP!

No, my cleaning service uses new supplies or sanitizes supplies between houses. Are you sure yours doesn't? I thought this was standard practice.

I ask them to use my supplies.

I use a service. The don't use a mop but use a dust mop sort of thing with a towel that covers it and a bottle. It isn't the most thorough way to do it but it is sanitary. When I want them to really mop, I provide the mop, bucket and cleaning solution.

This is kind of what my service does. They bring in a bag of clean rags and put those on the bottom of a swifter type thing and mop using that.

They use most of their own equipment, but they use my vacuum. The reason is that I have a really bad cat allergy and don't want dander blowing into my house. I think that is a reasonable compromise, and I make sure the cleaner is empty and out for them before every cleaning so they can get to their job.

I hired an individual, not a company. I provide everything from the vacuume to gloves and that's how I prefer it

Same with us. I provide gentle cleaning products and vinegar due to my daughter's allergies
