If you use a house-cleaning service...

I thought using their own supplies was the IRS' distinction between hiring them as contractors and hiring them as employees. Did you guys consider the tax implications of doing it this way?

Do you ever wonder how you got to such a boring person ?

This is DCUM - we love nerds and wonks here, so lay off.

Back on topic - no, I expect them to use their stuff, though I have no objection to them using mine. I hire cleaners because I am don't have time/desire to clean, so the last thing I'm going to do is micromanage their supplies, which I am sure are actuakly newer and more hygenic than my 5 yr old broom! I can see using your own supplies if you have allergy concerns tho.

My service brings their cleaning products but uses my sponges, cloths and anything else that gets wet and dirty.

I've been a nerd since I was a child. Would you prefer the standard hysterical DCUM response? I'll give it a try:

OMG!!!!! TAX EVADERS!!!! If you can't afford employee taxes, you better learn to clean your own house! Lazy cheapskates!! I feel sorry for your children.

Better?

Either you *need* the help, or you don't. Period.

Any recommendations for a service (I prefer multiple people so they are in and out).

OP specifically asks about a service -- one of the benefits of using a service, rather than an individual or two, is that you don't have to deal with the employee issue.

Lol! I feel for you. I am self employed and spend all my free time thinking about taxes: paying estimated taxes each quarter, collecting deductions etc. You need to cut Americans a break. They don't know sh*t about our tax system. This is why the Tea Party and all the anti-tax people are so popular. When I heard Mitt Romney paid 13% and I paid 37% last couple of years I about died. He is loaded and I actually work for a living. Hang in there, PP. One day some of them will get a clue.

PS I don't think you are boring!

"No, my cleaning service uses new supplies or sanitizes supplies between houses"

Riiight. I'm sure they are 'sanitizing' away in the back of their vans between houses.

The same way the food vendor at the hot dog cart ISNT peeing in the hot dog water. What do you think they are so delicious and salty??

Hmm, I have an individual, but I honestly never thought of the germ aspect. I ask her to bring her own cleaning supplies, though she does use my brush and pan and mop.

This is kind of what my service does. They bring in a bag of clean rags and put those on the bottom of a swifter type thing and mop using that.

This.

They use my cleaning solutions, but their own vacuum at my request b/c mine sucks - or rather, it doesn't As for what they do re. mops, rags, etc, I have no idea, and it never occurred to me to ask. My house is clean when I come home, and that's all I care about.

Be sure they really use your vacuum, etc., if that is what you want. I discovered that my service was actually using their own equipment even though I had requested that they use mine. In my case, I wanted them to use my vacuum b/c I was sure it was the right kind for hardwood floors and handmade rugs.
