| Anyone done this before allowing your child at their house unsupervised? |
| You are kidding, right? If not, you have serious issues. |
| If you are uncomfortable leaving your child at another parent's house unsupervised, try a supervised playdate first. Background checking your kid's friends' parents seems weird and paranoid to me. |
| Is it just that s/he is new to the community? Or does s/he give you the creeps? If it's the latter, just go with your gut and require all playdates with this kid to be at your house. If the former, invite the parents along so you. can get to know them. |
And I don't even know if it's legal if they don't know you're doing it. |
| Unless you work in law enforcement and are willing to run an illegal check, you are simply running an extensive "google" of this person and even that is weird. If you have specific qualms, don't make the playmate. If they are just run of the mill parents, get a grip. |
Why? People run background checks on babysitters. This is still a person you don't know so what's the difference? |
| Won't do any good. My step-dad molested me when I was 12. His bio daughter is now 13 ( my parents are divorced). He is not a registered sex offender because my mom cut a deal so he could keep his gov job. no record, paid child support. she lived off it. good for everybody except the concerned parents of his daughter's friends... |
The difference is that you don't know anything about a babysitter or a nanny other than what she or the references tell you. This person is going to be spending all day, every day with your child. Probably an infant who can't tell you anything. |
What is wrong with you? This is gross invasion of privacy. |
| I'd Google them at least. |
| I always check Facebook |
| I google everyone.....EVERYONE. Until I find out different, everyone is suspect.....EVERYONE. |
If this is true, you need to contact the police in the jurisdiction he currently lives in, and the mother of his daughter. You need to protect that kid. |
| DC and Maryland has searchable databases for all court cases going back many years. You could do that. Or google. But I wouldn't pay. |
