Metropolitan DC Local Politics
Ya, I know how hard it is being surrounded by republicans in sundown areas. |
Er, how would you feel if the federal government was paying the NRA millions of dollars to lobby Congress? |
I would be upset about it. But I would also look at the NRA filings to ensure they were in compliance with the law before posting allegations on a message board. |
WABA doesnt even pass the smell test. |
+1 |
You think the NRA doesn’t get public funding for running gun safety education programs? There is legally-mandated training provided by the NRA in several states: https://www.azmirror.com/2022/03/23/nra-gun-safety-class-for-schools-one-step-closer-to-becoming-law/ |
What you’re showing is that the notion of a well-resourced and powerful “bike lobby” is nothing but a ridiculous fiction. I care a lot about bike lanes, but have never contributed any money to WABA and have no intentions of doing so. What do I need them for when I can show up at an ANC meeting or write to my Councilmember? |
PP here. I live in a majority black neighborhood where, thankfully, no one gives a sh*t about bike lanes. Only white people care about bike lanes (and only a small fraction of them). |
DP but WABA is very well financed, just not by members. They receive millions from DDOT, the real estate industry, and have also received funds from WMATA. |
Do these schools not have gym teachers? I don't understand why schools would have to outsource this. |
The individual schools have not requested this. DC pays WABA to do it. |
"Illegal" in this case only refers to the IRS. Comingling only matters in regards to whether contributions are tax deductible and whether or not their income is taxable. Moreover "lobbying" is a massive loophole because it only refers to specific legislation. In common parlance they lobby. In IRS parlance they don't because there is no specific legislation. |
FTR, I opt to drive because driving and parking at a metro station for the subway or bus adds both time and money to my already long and costly commute. Why would anyone add more time and more money to their commute??? I’ve tried metro. I would never try the bus because it adds significant time to an already long commute. I’m not the only commuter who lives in MoCo. There are thousands of us. We aren’t switching to public transit because it isn’t cost effective or convenient. We aren’t hopping on bicycles. Bikes are really only a solution for DC residents or those who live close to the city limits. Buses are only convenient for those within walking distance. Ditto for most metro riders. Creating “solutions” for only those who are already in the city of nearby really aren’t traffic solutions at all. #Duh |
You’ve just made this up, which is hilarious. Also, DC has its own lobbying laws and regulations for which WABA was found in violation. |
When, and by whom? Got a link? |
