Use of the word "bitter" on DCUM

Anonymous
C'mon, people. Try harder. Think more. "Bitter" is so overused and hackneyed.

Didn't want a big wedding? Find it distasteful? = You're bitter that you couldn't afford one.
Don't think looks are the most important thing on earth ? = You must be ugly and you're bitter about beautiful women.
Prefer a condo or apt in the city to a huge suburban house and yard? = You're bitter that you don't have the "American Dream."
Don't want high heeled shoes that cost $500? = You're bitter and frumpy and wear Danskos.

I could go on, but I won't. I think we all get the idea. Live and let live, right?

We're too busy clinging to our guns to find another word.

bitter is the new pathetic.

Yes, the use of that word so often on DCUM is striking. Makes me wonder if there is one especially prolific poster who likes to use that word because frankly it's not a very effective insult. Shows a general lack of imagination in my view.

Bravo OP!!!

blah blah blah - CARES ABOUT YOU. Is "stupid b*tch" or "trite b*tch" more befitting? Perhaps it is - I apologize for use of an inappropriate adjective. I will be more selective next time.

In case you need further explanation:

Complain, whine, rag/hate on somebody, whine, complain, rag/hate on more people, complain, hate

= b*tch.

Top DCUM response words - bitter and jealous.

DCUM - just like high school. Except for the sexless marriages. Ugh.

Others are "I feel sorry for you" and/or "I feel sorry for your children". No you don't, and I never asked for your pity.

Also "Maybe you'd be happier if you..." when the OP or other poster never gave the slightest indication she was unhappy.

What AM "I" ranting about?

In an environment filled with constant competition of various sorts such as who is a better parent, who is a better wife, who is more religious, who has more stuff, where someone lives or shops, who weighs less than who and what they ate that day.... well, you're going to have a little bitterness. And no, I don't think this is exclusive of DC.

That's not a rant. That's pointing out what others have ranted about.

By why is that the default response when one realizes people have made different choices than oneself and that they are comfortable with those choices? Why is the automatic reaction "Well then, you must be bitter and envious because you don't have/don't want what I have or what I covet" ?

OP thank you for this post. I am seeing bitter all over the place and have been called bitter and I an not bitter ! I actually just started a thread with the disclaimer...I am not bitter. I agree bitter is the new pathetic. I think some trolls just run around labeling people bitter to annoy people.
