WTF..where is my Starbucks Africa Kitamu coffee??

Anonymous
My local Safeway stopped carrying it and it's soooo hard to find if you don't use those tassimo things. Why?????? It's the best tasting and that stuff seems to glue my eyelids open and give me energizer bunny energy. It's like crack and speed combined..not that i've tried either...

I know, I must go to the Starbucks website once again and plead my case for having Africa Kitamu in every grocery store and Starbucks.

Anyone else want to join the Africa Kitamu movement??? Please join me in complaining to Starbucks and Safeway. Anyone??

OP here...That made me laugh for two reasons

1.) I could not possibly function on decaf
2.) Because I realize how crazy and addicted I sound

Definitely complain to Starbucks. I'm reading "Onward" and they claim to care very much about the customer. I recently complained about a terrible store (it took me 20 minutes to get my drink while the barista took pictures on her phone of the stacked up cups waiting for her to make drinks). They sent me free coupons.

Yesterday i called Starbucks company in seattle and spoke to a very nice person in cusromer service. They told me, that AFRICA KITAMU has been discontinued.!!!!! DAMN i have been searching for this coffee for a while, ever since the Starbucks company told the KRAFT company to take a flying leap [ Kraft foods was packaging the Starbucks coffees for sale to customers that own a Tassimo coffee machine.] So, i heard Starbucks was going to make a business deal with the Keurig company and start putting Starbucks coffee into K-Cups for sale to customer that own the Keurig machine.
BUT>> no Africa Kitamu K-cups, so i called Starbucks asking when they will have it and to my disappointment they said this coffee is discontinued!! I cant even find any 12oz bag of it in the stores anymore. I was looking on Ebay and i saw single packet size coffee thats made for sale to hotels and airlines. I found a website that has this item listed.

im not sure if they have it available, as i am waiting for them to answer my email inquiry. Just thought i might pass this info to you in case there is a supply of this stuff that hasnt been sold out yet.

I hate when something like that happens.

FWIW, Quartermaine's is a local roaster that seems to have a similar roast style to Starbucks-- I bet they would find you something similar.

Or, I like to order online from Peets and they have some great African coffees, and some great blends (their mocha java is the best smelling coffee ever). Their coffee is cheaper online than in a store, and often you can find a coupon for free shipping (for example, order today or tomorrow and use their mothers day code-- 12MCATW).

So happy to know, I'm not the only one looking for "Africa Kitamu'.
The three reasons we love it so much:
1) It's Bold, 2) it's Floral and, 3) it has a subtle Spice.
Good Luck,
It you find it, please post where you purchased.
Thanks

Best coffee on the east coast: http://counterculturecoffee.com

Seems the African ones are out of season now... (but their Kenyan coffees are awesome).
Right now, the Papua New Guinea ones are very good.

Dont bother complaining to Starbucks, I have contacted their customer service dept and it is confirmed Africa Kitamu is discontinued. Starbucks did say that the coffee that is closest to the Africa Kitamu is the "Kenya" coffee, available in 12 ounce bags. I have yet to see that coffee in the supermarket, althought its probably available at a local Starbucks store or at Starbucks company online store.

If you still want to use your Tassimo machine, im afraid you will have to abandon your beloved Starbucks coffee. What most people dont know is, Kraft Foods company, OWNS TASSIMO coffee machine company, and has the rights to package the coffees sold for use in Tassimo coffee makers. Kraft did not aggressively market the sale of Tassimo coffee machines , in comparison to Keurig Company, with their single serving K-cup machines. Keurig has captured about 80% of the market. Starbucks company felt that they were losing out by staying with Tassimo. So Starbucks and Kraft dissolved their business relationship. Shortly afterward Starbucks made a business agreement with Keurig to market Starbucks coffee in the K-cup for use in their coffeemakers.

I also have a Tassimo machine and i bought a bunch of that coffee from Bed Bath & Beyond before they sold it out. I am on my last pack.
I had bought a Keurig machine assuming that i would be able to buy the Africa Kitamu in K-cups, but its not going to happen. There are some Starbucks coffees offered in K-cups but not Africa Kitamu.

What i did do, is watch Ebay for the coffee that we really like! and every so often, someone does have some Africa Kitamu on auction. Single serving packets like they have in hotels, or sometimes a t-disc pack will show up on auction. I just bought some 12ounce bags of ground Africa Kitamu coffee on Ebay. And also bought a box of disposable K-cups . It consists of plastic cartridge cups, paper filters, and lids. You just throw them out after each use, like the-discs. Only difference is that you have to fill it. Keurig also makes a re-useable "my K-Cup" but that one doesnt have a filter so you got get involved with wet coffee grounds mess. I opted for the disposable one.

So even though i bought a single cup Keurig machine, i am going backward in time, by using ground coffee and having to make my own k-cups. But it doesnt seem to be too much of a bother if i can still enjoy the Africa Kitamu coffee!!

Whatever you decide to do i wish you the best.

Oh my goodness PP, I am seriously in awe of the care you take to get the coffee you like, and also of your palate. I am not being smarmy. I can tell some differences in coffee but nothing like that. I wonder if you are a wine conosseiur too. I am not but now I think my palate must be too basic for me to appreciate the subtle differences .

I love you!! I think I called at one point a year ago and I was the only person who ever mentioned the bring back African Kitamu movement. The person had not heard of it, but said she's pass it on. Let your voice be heard! I accomplish 10 times as much in a day when I'm drinking my kitamu and it tastes great.
