You met at the Big Hunt years ago, when you were in grad school. Your husband complained to his friends about having to stay at your place in Arlington. His commute to the Hill from his group house was so much easier. You now live in the close in suburbs and you volunteer for the swim team. Braylynn has long hair and looks girly, but you get offended is anyone thinks he’s a girl. You rent a row house in Baltimore but keep telling everyone you will be moving to Roland Park soon. You and your brother Skye were born in the late 70s. His name references his conception (on a blanket in the desert as the sun set) and does yours (a sojourn in Laurel Canyon). When you mom was pregnant with you they moved back east. Your dad was too good at making money to stay a hippie-he does something in finance you've never quite understood. They split when you and Skye were young teens. Dad was pretty vindictive and found a young trophy wife. Mom went back to work as an ESL teacher and you all crammed into her 1 bed apartment on her custody time. It was really strange living two such different lives. Skye hated your dad and totally rebelled. He refused to go to college. He worked on a fishing boat in Alaska but hated the cold, so he moved to Mexico for a while and then on to Ecuador. He married a woman there and they have an eco tourism business. You had to be the straight arrow, so you went to Georgetown. You work for the government. Dh is a lawyer and you have three kids. You mom loves being a grandparent. |
